Greetings all

 

 

 

I am in Putaruru, we have had fibre run down the street a week or two ago, and i have had a cable trenched in and run up to the house, Just a black cable sticking out

 

 

 

What happens next, I assume someone installs an ONT? on the side of the house, but thats as far as i can tell reading various FAQs

 

 

 

does that ONT then hook up to the existing wiring, or is that another step,

 

and then do we need to get our provider to switch us to fibre,

 

and will our same modem work (orcon genius thingie)

So they have run the cable and coiled it up outside your house?

 

If so, the next step is installation of the ETP (External Termination Point). From there, the fibre will be run to where they have agreed (with you) to put the ONT - it goes inside as it is powered. A cable then runs from the ONT to your Router.

 

If you are keeping phone services, they will also hook up your existing phones to the ONT (or Router, depending on how your RSP does it).

cheers, that clears it up a bit.

 

So i don't have to initiate anything, this will all be done as part of the process.

I believe you will need to initiate the process by asking your Internet provider to hook you up to the fibre goodness.

 

There is no point installing an ETP / ONT if you aren't going to be using it :-)
Most times the people installing UFB in the street are closely followed by salespeople wanting to hook you up to fibre.

Yes, my post above was assuming you had already ordered UFB from your ISP. Nothing will happen without that.

 

But you said a black cable had been run to your house, I assume this is because you have placed an order, and the first part of the install has happened (it is usually two parts - 1st getting it from the road to your house, the second installing in your house).

Ahh, in that case, wait until it becomes officially available (usually quite a bit more time than 2 weeks from laying the fibre in the street) and order it from your ISP/ISP of choice.

Well, that seems to be a simpler form than the one used by Spark, which never seems to work because it can't verify my passport details or vehicle licence details etc etc.

I think if you filled in the form on that page, UFF would run a fibre to your house as part of their street works.

 

This is good planning, and means when it comes time to install it into your house, it will be very simple.

 

 

 

You just have to wait for them to finish the build and turn on the fibre in the town.

 

It could still be a wee while for that though.

Well we now have an ETP on the side of the house, so that good.

 

So now i just wait for the fibre to be turned on before progressing with my install? Is there some sort of notification that happens when this gets turned on.

From the Ultra Fast Fibre site FAQ...

 

1. Register your interest for FREE via the form below and let us know if you want us to install some of our network on your property when we build down the street and receive a streamlined fibre installation

 

2. Ultrafast Fibre Limited (UFF) will contact you to take you through the next steps; and

 

3. Once UFF gives you the green light, you can contact your preferred broadband provider and sign up to a Fibre Broadband service.

What are the stages? Here were my stages

 

 

 

1 - Log a request for Fibre

 

2 - Told that fibre is already installed to the premises (!?)

 

3- Tell them it isn't

 

4 - They say it is, guy turns up for the inside install...and guess what, there's no fibre. I told them that already...

 

5 - Hear nothing

 

6 - Ask them when a guy is coming for the install for the outside

 

7 - They tell me there's already fibre installed to the premises (?!)

 

8 - Tell them it isn't....after a delay they agree to come do the outside

 

9 - Can't do it, conduit is blocked. Told there is a different team to clear it, they will try again

 

10 - Same guy turns up again, apparently he's the different team. Can't unblock it. Tells me to get the bodycorp to approve ripping up the communal driveway

 

11 - Bodycorp are like "hell no, fibre is already installed to the premises"

 

12 - Give up.
