Hey guys,
long time reader first time poster.

Have a bit of a connection issue. Have got a D-Link DI504 router, with cabling under the house to a Belkin wireless G router.

I would prefer straight cables, but cannot get through to one particular bedroom.

Anyhow, I had to disable DHCP on the Belkin, and everything seemed to be working fine.

Here is the problem, about to get a new flatmate into the said room with a laptop and wanting to add the new mac address so she can have access. I cannot log into the Belkin router anymore to add her mac address.

Any solution?

P.S- the router does not cover the whole area as i would like, plus i need more ports on the D-link for VOIP, Xbox etc.

Factory reset the Belkin, then plug WAN into D-Link, and a PC into one of the Belkin LAN ports. (if the Belkin does not have LAN ports, then the wireless should be open to connect to).
Then connect into Belkin, reconfigure the wireless network. Once that is done and working, change the setting to make the Belkin a wireless "access point" only.

Not sure what model of Belkin you have, so the above a loosely based on a couple of these I've configured previously.

um....not sure if you totally get what i mean.

The Belkin is working fine for current PCs connected to it. I just want to be able to log into it and add a new mac address.

I used to just log in using 192.168.0.1 etc etc but not with the new router added at the start this method is no longer working.

I have been through this with several others, turning the DHCP server off in the wireless router and connecting via its LAN port is just part of the exercise, the other thing you must do is move the LAN address of the belkin into the same address space as you DSL router.

Currently the only way to sort you problem is to set a static IP on your PC for 192.168.0.2/255.255.255.0 and then you should be able to connect to your Belkin via a LAN port on 192.168.0.1.

Once in there I suggest you again check the DHCP server is off then change the LAN address (forget WAN) to something like 10.1.1.210/255.0.0.0 and save and reboot, this will place it into the same address space as the Dlink.

Now connect your Belkin and Dlink back together via LAN ports and put your PC back in to DHCP client (ie automatically get an IP address) and the DLink will now give your PC an address in the 10.1.1.X range. You should now be able to accss the Belkin at 10.1.1.210.

Before you do anything else, access the Dlink (should be 10.1.1.1) and go into the LAN setup and change the end address range that the DHCP server in the DLink can operate over to 10.1.1.200, this means that 201-254 can be used for static IPs, the Belkin being one of them at 10.1.1.210.

Question:

If i disconnect the Belkin wireless from the Dlink router and connect to the Belkin via 192.168.0.1(once i plug in the lan cable) i should be able to change the settings on it till me hearts content correct?

Now, will these settings remain as i last set them when i reconnect the Dlink and Belkin together???

Im thinking this could be an easier fix than the one you mentioned Cyril.

Hi, sorry been away for a few days, yes you should be able to do as you say, once there in the LAN setup turn off the DHCP server, as there can only be one in a single network or trouble breaks out. this is the minimum you need to do, however if you want to make it easier to admin your belkin then you want to change its LAN address to within the same as the D-Link else the subnet of your PC will no longer match the Belkin, so will not be found without temporarily setting a static address for your PC.

Hence my above description is still what you need to do to complete the task, should take all of 5min max if not less.
