Vector Communications in Auckland servicing the CBD are experiencing a major network outage, this will be effecting a majority of services running over vector circuits,

I can't comment for other SP's but this will be effecting some customers for quite a few SP's,

Issue occured at 13:37 (12:37pm) today - no ETR at this time but it is looking to be ongoing for several hours yet.

working on the helpdesk is hell right now cause of this outage. I have spent the whole day saying the same thing "we have a network outage at the moment, caused by a third party, we hope to have it resolved in the next couple of hours"

Vodafone/ihug has been dead all afternoon. Try switching to Mobile broadband as a backup. I've been on 3G since 2pm & that is working fine. In fact, its the only way I can get to the status page of the Vodafone network, as the helpdesk is 100% gone with the volume of calls. Wish I had not left my Linksys 3G router at work this weekend!!!

AmooMan: (Backup systems anyone) ??

Backup systems (if any) will collapse with such a big outage, and because the fibre network is pretty big, it won't make much of a difference.

Have Vector said anything about the cause of the outage? Is it because of the new tracking device Tongue out in the press release on Saturday??
