When I check my home address using https://www.chorus.co.nz/tools-support/broadband-tools/broadband-checker for the availability of fibre

I get a response that says "Better broadband using fibre is coming to your place in Aug-2019"

How accurate is this?

As this is currently more than a year away, will the target date of August 2019 start to move (either sooner or later) as it gets closer?

The ones I've been following have been pretty close.

Latest one is my parents in Thames - said May 2018 for about a year, and I see it is now available for installation.

My Chorus online has said Fibre coming to my place about October 2018 for some time.

Mailer in letter box said Fibre would be completed in my street around August.

Now Chorus online shows Fibre to my place December 2018....

In the mean time my VDSL is getting slower since 9 months ago.

My forecast was set solid for the preceding 18 months or so as April 2018.

My installation went like this:

  1. 1st April - logged request with 2Degrees for upgrade from VDSL to fibre...same day it became officially available in the street
  2. 3 April - get texts from 2Degrees to provide 3 dates for scoping, build and handover
  3. 13th April - Chorus Engineer turns up 08:00 as planned to do scoping and advises he can complete the full install today if I was able to hang around
  4. 13th April 12:30 - I have fibre and it all works beautifully.

So in my experience it was pretty good!

Just checked mine here in Morrinsville

"Better broadband using fibre is coming to this address.
We don't have the exact date confirmed for your street just yet. Please check with us again soon for confirmed dates in your area."

It will be interesting to see how it plays out with the home I am having built next year. The developer has committed to laying fibre but Chorus is stating that fibre will only be available about six months after completion. I assume they will have to lay both copper and fibre on the site so that the copper can be used as an interim solution, unless they have some sort of dispensation from Chorus to have fibre available to the development ahead of schedule.

I had a similar experience. Fibre was forecast for May 2017 and at midnight of the 1st of may it came up as available so that very next morning I called my rsp and requested fibre the scope date was the 13th of may and one week later they came back and did the inside work and I had fibre up and running on the 17th of may. We don’t live on a shared driveway and it was a underground install.

I moved to Whangaparaoa approx 6 years ago. Back then was advised fiber would be there the following year. I'm still waiting. Latest update is this time next year.

I'm guessing I'll be close to retirement by the time it actually arrives....   :-p

Judging by the replies so far, i sounds like the target date is accurate.

My original concern being the Rugby World Cup in October 2019. There should be enough time for Fibre installation and also to swap over the the new Vodafone TV box.

They can have delays of a few months. Don't put your hopes up too much.
