We have an RBI phone connection that feeds our old landline house phones via a black box. It is wireless so it can't really be called a landline. It is fixed, so it can't be called mobile either, though it uses 4G. Is there a particular term for this kind of phone connection? I can't think of one but I do get absent-minded in my old age.

Poinless is what I call them. But bartenders suggestions are what I have always heard them called by.

That's because that is what the product names are/were within Spark while I was there. BoLTE being Broadband over LTE was the first product then FWV being Fixed Wireless Voice launched the Voice service.

It's pointless to have a phone?

oh come now, don't be so harsh. pointless is what you call fixed voice service, delivered over 3g...

no reason to be dipping down for something that can be just as easily managed in other ways..

I don't really care how it works, just that it does. Our phone service is excellent, much better than when we did have a Spark landline. I just wish my laptop Internet wouldn't die every time it rings (something to do with that fallback).

One tied to a location that I cant take with me that doesnt have any of the percieved reliabilty increases that running it over a copper network like the product it claims to replace.

Same network, a device that I can carry with me anywhere and use anywhere has a purpose. Tying that gear to a fixed location and lack of battery unless I add one to it is pointless IMO.

I don't find it pointless at all and in fact it has turned out to be a lot more reliable than the old copper landline. One of the things I like best about it is that I can't take it with me. Home is for phone time. When I go out it is me time.

That shouldn't be happening on Spark. It's a VoIP service on a dedicated APN with QoS associated. So the data session shouldn't disconnect or fail back to 3G as the voice call is a standard SIP connection over IP (not VoLTE)
