Does anyone know what the maximum distance of a non-standard free install is (by Enable) in Christchurch?

Been told today that it is 30m, trenched - (I thought this was 200m) and that the ISP will decide if the customer is to pay for the install costs over the 30m distance. Enable tech says it's likely that they will.

It's neither residential nor business. It's a sports club on council land. The ISP order is for a residential connection.

Best bet will be to contact Enable. As its council land, you could get the council to get the trench dug for you or have a working bee to dig the trench if the council allows.

Thanks. We'll see how we go - initial scope has been done.  I should probably mention that Enable is owned by the Christchurch City Council, which could work in our favour if we hit a snag.

Each LFC has their own definition of a standard install length. From memory Enable's is 15 metres from the road for a business. I am not sure about residential but as the OP has stated, his connection is for a non-for-profit organisation which is going onto a residential type plan, so the 30 metres he has been advised is probably correct.

Even though Enable is owned by CCC, the council doesn't really provide any concessions or special assistance to them. That has certainly been my experience when dealing with address issues in the past. Enable is very much held at arms length by the council, much the same as any other utilities operator.

Thanks Wheelbarrow01. Been advised the install cost will be $3,000+GST which isn't too bad. Turns out the connection will be classed as a business after all, very similar pricing.
