PROVEN NOT A SCAM - See below - Thank you CoffeeBaron

Another 8 hours research and STILL NO PROOF 4G 240GB Rural Broadband ACTUALLY EXISTS.

Prove Me Wrong - PLEASE. Post an address that comes up 240GB in the "Check your address" for Spark, or Skinny.

spark dot co dot nz / shop / internet

skinny dot co dot nz / broadband - then select 240GB

The closest I have gotten to any official answer is...

"240GB plans are only available in a limited sub-set of locations where Spark Wireless Broadband is available"

...found by googling "Spark Skinny launching 240GB" and looking at the "Notes to editor:" on the bottom of the page by sparknz dot co dot nz

Chat after chat, call after call, hour after hour, day after day, and that's as far as I can get.

I have had the 120GB plan from Skinny and loved it but my three children and I are apparently heavy users averaging 300GB/month. The Skinny plan was great because when it ran out I could log in to my account, delete the plan, and then purchase the same plan again, giving me another 120GB. This was awesome, for a time, but quite expensive. My plan is to get the 240GB plan by putting in an address that works and using the modem in the 120GB coverage area. We live in a rural area and have to travel multiple times a year, or, yes, I would be on VDSL.

I'm a noob here so I'm not allowed to post links yet. I'm not a noob though, lifelong enthusiast, started my paid career 1999.

For starters you will not find 240GB for rural on Skinny. They don't do rural 4G.

Skinny don't do rural coverage areas, you only get that on spark.

Where coverage is not reasonable enough, you can not order the 240GB plan as it will unnecessarily load the network.

repetitively buying 120GB packs on skinny is ofcourse kinda a work around there, isn't ideal.

If you sign up at an different address and relocate the modem, it will be geolocked.

The 240GB plans aren't a scam, unfortunately it's a simple fact that RF is a limited commodity.

Edge of the network uses (which is often Rural) will be clocking down on modulation rate, requiring more airtime - thus requiring more of the network, dispute using less.

CoffeeBaron has PROVEN IT IS NOT a Scam. The address you suggested gave this reply from Skinny...

"Success! It looks like you should be able to get Skinny Broadband at your place. Your Skinny modem can only be used at this address. If used anywhere else, we may need to stop your service. Please also note Skinny Broadband is only for consumer customers (not businesses)."

So, although I have moved my Skinny modem arround my area, if I moved it out of the region, it would fail due to "geolock"?

The 240GB plan in the CBD, is the Urban plan, Very different for the same reasons mentioned above.

Although you may have gotten away with minor movements within your area, it will get caught out there are systems inplace for this - You are certainly would not be the first to try it.

If the broadband order page does not list a product for your address, It is not available. there is no changing that.

the network team are always working on improving coverage so they can offer it to more folk. Massive amounts of work is going in at them moment, and very few towers are actually in that limited stopsell situation.

Unfortunately, living rural can come at a cost sometimes.

I know this well, i too live rural. I can appreciate the frustration..

Typically speaking Skinny is not a rural offering - their fixed wireless is primarily targeted at urban addresses. Spark supplies both rural and urban.

I've just tried a handful of addresses and seen no issue getting the 240GB plan in urban areas. As pointed out however it's only available in areas where there is adequate network capacity.

I've had very positive feedback on the service, many that use it get far greater speeds and reliability over the copper options or would otherwise have to deal with very complex fibre installations.

Main negative i hear is price and/or data limits, which is fair enough. I can't speak to what the future holds, from my view though.. It can only get better.

For Geolocks, it starts at self service options and gets more difficult from there... Not a path i'd recommend you go on.

Where do you live @Sundance?
