Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else has quite a 'crackley' phone line.

when I pick up and hit the button before I dial, I can hear quite alot of static....is this normal (ive had it in almost every house ive lived)?

If not, will this affect bband speeds?

Just got changed over to adsl 2+ on Voda yesterday and sync was around 6500kbs, with upload at 1000kbs

line atten is usually between 39-41, so I understand im quite far away from the exchange.

on adsl1 I would only ever reach a max of 2800kbs on my speednet tests, last night on adsl2 I was getting about 5500kbs on speedtest to akl.

does this seem ok for my line atten? or will my crackly phone line be slowing me down?

Its probably your phone if its happened at more then one place.

Buutton ??? are you describing a cordless phone? Radio path noise is a problem in itself, telephone lines are not normally noisy. Some cordless phones will also cause noise in ordinary phones close to them.

yeah, its a cordless phone.....sorry, shouldve mentioned that.

its a cheapo one, had it for ages, so maybe thats the problem.....just wondered if that would also be decreasing my bband performance.

Then chances are it wont effect your adsl, but you really should look at upgrading it if its an analog phone since you are making your calls available for the whole street to hear if it is.

dect ones are dirt cheap now, range isnt that great, but prob better then a cheapo analog phone.

If the charging base of the cordless phone is in the kitchen then thats where your problem is....move the charging base to another room and problem solved...

Actually DECT phones did the best in consumers latest test, just to let you know.
The Panasonic KX-TG1855NZ did the best, 65 metres through 2 brick walls. RRP$90

Can also be line noise from water getting into cable joints.

You can clear the line sometimes by phoning yourself which fires voltage down the line to make your phone ring.

pick up the receiver dial 137, put the phone down,let it ring a few times and then check if crackle is still there.

Me:"I'm not a robot!"

ET: "Maybe; you have some freewill, but you chose your path by arrangement"

Me "That sounds like a program with no freewill?"

ET: "We will catch up when you end this cycle"

Me: "Sounds like a 'KPI'!"
