I used to have IPV6 service from Vodafone when the service was via VDSL. I am posting this here as I am asking about all ISPs serving Christchurch.

Since moving to fibre (Enable in Christchurch), there has been no IPV6 service, and Vodafone say it is nothing to do with them:

"As a provider, we do not assign IPv6. However, on the Chorus network, sometimes you will receive an IPv6 address or the status as connection, but since your connection has been moved over to the Enable Fibre Network, this will not be possible.

"This will not affect the performance of your current connection. The reason for the introduction of IPv6 connections are because it will give us the ability to get more IP addresses. This is not widely used and still not used in NZ as if yet.

"I hope this explanation helps!"

Well, it doesn't. Does anybody in Christchurch have working IPV6 over Enable fibre with any ISP? It's not life-threatening, but I would like it to work. On a positive note, I should report that I get blisteringly fast performance (>900Mb/s) from Vodafone via Enable, so it's not all bad news.

Regards

Ken

The ISP / Vodafone has a hell of a lot to do with IPv6 @Shaunm should be able to add some value here

We've got IPv6 on almost all of our fixed line now, but as you've discovered it's not yet there on Enable. We triggered a fault when trying to add it a while back and just been waiting for a patch to be rolled out before trying again. Hopefully it'll be running by Christmas, if not then early next year.

Someone needs to update their script

As above, IPV6 now up and running via Enable fibre in Christchurch.

Many thanks to gaddman for his part in making this happen.

Ken.

I joined 2degrees before November, and had solid ipv6 all the way.

Don’t get how Vodafone blames Enable, when I’m on Enable

PPPoE vs DHCP implementations i'd bet.

in this world where providers choose their authentication methods and tagging etc, comparing providers at face value can be like apples vs oranges...

May be worth starting a new thread and describing what symptoms you're seeing. An awful lot of IPv6 issues are client-side, not network, so things like 3rd-party routers, custom DNS, weird PC setup, etc. Not to suggest there aren't network issues too, but there's not much to go on here.

I don't think they were blaming enable as such, just their offering via Enable didnt have it VS their DSL

Now.. if only Spark would do something...

BTW, is IPv6 available on FibreX in Christchurch? Would it be available for those on an older plan with a Cisco modem (and static IPv4 address)

It's enabled for FibreX, but not for customers still on the older cable network. I'm not sure, but I think if you re-sign on a FibreX plan you'll be provided a Technicolor modem (and an UltraHub router) and moved onto the IPv6-capable network. @shaunm will know, otherwise call in. Pretty sure you can retain whatever static IPv4 address you have, but we don't currently offer static IPv6 addresses.

Yep thanks, I got that from hio77 response. ISP's can have different ways of setting up fibre connections, and looks like Vodafones method wasn't compatible with Enable on IPv6 front.

Coming from being a Spark customer I'm not seeing any big change in way internet works, so as long as enough IP's for each customer don't understand the major benefit, which is maybe why Spark not in hurry.

TBH, my only scientific evidence that IPV6 is a bit flakey in the past week or two is the GZ logo... the green IPV6 logo dissapears.

There is a large list of reasons why it may have fallen back to v4 without any actual issue
