We are moving into a new home tomorrow. We are trying to get connected with BigPipe, but they told us they can't put in a connection order until after the current disconnect order goes through. It's apparently set to go through Feb 25th (a month away!). Is there any way to speed it up or get access to the existing fibre connection?

We have no contact with the previous tenants but are trying to ask the landlord for assistance. Thought I'd pop by here in case anyone has any good ideas. A month without internet isn't something we were expecting. We currently have Skinny 4G broadband currently but it says it is unavailable in the new area (plus we'd like to get fibre speeds and no caps). I suspect Skinny is oversubscribed in the new area is why.

We've asked Bigpipe if there is anyway to expedite the process, but they haven't responded yet. Hoping someone might have some other options or advice?

some times yes depending on what order has been placed for the existing connection and if its chorus or UFF you do have to wait, But if you call your ISP and tell them that they have to liven port 2 they should be able to do that and prioritize that, on chorus you should be able to liven it within 12 hours, on uff a day or 2 as they still have no api for the back end and it will have to be processes manually.

Thanks, it's Chorus. What do you mean liven port 2? A second port on the fibre connection?

Yes so they should be able to liven eth2 on the ONT as your bigpipe connection

I'll ask about abandonment order, thanks. Haven't heard back from big pipe so good to know.

sounds like getting port 2 provisioned to get you up and going, then lodge a request to have the speed increased later.

or just plug into port one Ahem,,,,,,,,

Figure out which ISP supplied the old tenants and sign up with them.

Or as said above, just use the old tenants Internet connection for now. As most ISPs don't require you to login for the connection to work. (port based auth) Just need to figure out pppoe or dhcp and vlan tag or not.

Port 2 can be a gig connection on either chorus or UFF,

The catch is on chorus you can only have one gig connection at any one time on any port on the ont.

So if the first port is livened as a 100m circuit you can liven the second as a gig port but that will be livened as a secondary circuit at a different rate, so when the primary circuit gets the disconnection put through the RSP will have to request to keep the secondary circuit live but now change this to the primary circuit for that ont.

But if the primary circuit is gig on port one on the ont you can only liven the second port to a maximum of 200mbit from memory until the disconnection order had gone through on the primary port then the secondary port can be re-provisioned as a gig circuit

UFF can liven ports 1 and port 2 as a gig connection, but the limitation there is that the ont up-link is only capable of handling 1 gig at any one time, so that means you cant get gig speeds on both ports at the same time, its one or the other.

Big pipe says they can't liven port 2 since chorus has a disconnection order for end of Feb.

Previous tenants took the power cord for the chorus modem too. Sigh...

the end of feb seems a bit far fetched, i would have thought that as soon as the previous tenants had put the relocation order in it should have been disconnected

they should be able to do this, has bigpipe got the correct address and ont serial number

They told me disconnect order is 25 Feb so they can't put anything else on it. They haven't asked for the ont number but they have the correct address.

i wonder what would happen if the ont went missing? that surely would speed up the process lol as the old circuit would have been provisioned to the old ont
