I just happened to be helping my neighbour with their computer and noticed they get 17a VDSL and they are further from the cabinet than me. I have never been able to get 17a except on the morning they switched it on in my area. Should I bother logging a fault with Chorus?

How do you know they are further from the cabinet? More likely they are closer in terms of cable path, or a different cabinet.

and you know where the cable runs?

my neighbour is closer to the cabinet than I am but their cable goes further than mine because it comes from the pole outside my house and goes back to theirs, so they have about 30m more cable than I do.

physically closer does not = closer cable wise.

some cables go down one side of the street then back down the other

Firstly that is a very good connection, don't complain :)
Secondly, DLM has put you on a profile with latency, give it a few weeks/months and it may remove interleaving and then a slight speed increase.

Sorry but I have been waiting as very long time already :)

I complain because just over there (yes, less than 50 metres away) is a nice new subdivision with fibre, but we are not scheduled to be connected until Sept. 2022, unless I pay $20,000 as quoted by Chorus.

Technically you could just disable 8b on your fritz...

Overall though, it's just what ddDLM has decided is right for your line. It does look like your nearing peak for 8b and probably should be on 17a.

Logging a fault to fix this will go nowhere, as it's working as intended.

ddDLM doesnt only target highest speed, but also stability etc.

Will stop your modem from being able to negotiate 8b.

Just need to take caution doing those sorts of things as forcing 8b for example could leave you with no connection if Vectoring was activated.

Normally the fritz's prefer 17a. Even on Very long lines.

It's a radio button...

Someone with a fritz on hand would be able to point you to it, i'll dig my fritz out tonight...

It's not the snr tweaking. that's different again. also generally something to avoid

Bumping this topic as I haven't been able to find a way to stop my Fritzbox negotiating at 8b Profile. Can anyone help of point me in the direction of a modem that will.
