When they installed UFB down my street they left me with the green box on the boundary like this:

But they also installed this thing on my front (laughing called) lawn.

So what is the black plastic thing for?

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Hi, the green one is a standard Chorus pedastal, basically a newer version of the old grey mushroom style one that is blown fibre friendly. As for the small black dias, I suspect its a micro pit that probably contains a joint for micro duct

The green one is a road target, -50 points if you hit one.

Yep, we've got the micro pit at the top of our driveway too. It is a shared driveway so it is where the fibre branches off to both houses.

Well that is strange - The green box is just 1 metre away from the micro pit - wonder why they are feeding me off the micro pit and not the green box.

Ours is about 3m from the green box. But the green box holds the copper network and was installed when the house was built about 13 years ago, right next to the green box is a larger black box that has all the power connections to both properties (I know it’s power because the d**kh**ds who shifted our furniture drove across the garden and over it when we moved in and power was cut to both houses).

Our newly installed fibre doesn’t go anywhere near the green box.

Micro pit? Micro Duct?

Micro duct = a small, hardened plastic duct which has the fibre cable inside (another plastic sheath with fibres in it). Microducts are buried in the ground at shallow levels when the ground doesnt easily support deep bury (for example, large parts of Auckland are volcanic scoria rock which is EXPENSIVE to dig up).

Micro pit = literally a plastic cavity in the ground to which the duct connects and exits the fibre, so the poor tech can get hands in there to do some work. Pit's are used to store ground equipment, and have more room for people to generally work in

The pedestal is above ground so they aren't having to take that pit cover off, work in the dirt in a confined space etc

You should know better than this. Each one has a different points value written on the front - in this case it's 6-7 depending on whether you hit it in the dark.
