please excuse the noob FAQ question

which address checking site is authoritative?  Trying to sort out a fiber hookup in central chch suburb for family member

I've checked on a few ISPs and Chorus.  Chorus says ‘computer says no’ DSL only, but other ISPs say fiber yes

Confused.
