Hi Everyone

Firstly apologies if this topic has already been covered ... I did try search but every keyword I tried returned 100's of results 😊

Anyway I am trying to help a friend of mine who lives on a lifestyle block in Rolleston, Canterbury and is about 700 meters away from the nearest broadband to the door connection.

The enable.net website indicates that there is no fibre at that address; so tough luck, no fibre, use copper connection at 17Mbits (which quite frankly sucks).

I spoke to some Chorus guys the other day and basically they said they we are screwed as it is impossible to get broadband unless Enable run fibre to the door.

But what about a private install ?

Is it perhaps possible to get a private install of broadband done at their own cost ?
Like I said, the nearest fibre point is only about 700m away. Also, in between that point and them, they have a few neighbours who would also want to jump on board if this possible and obviously they could all share costs.

Would appreciate if anyone knows if this at all possible and especially if anyone from Enable who is on this forum could point us in the right direction.

Cheers
--Michael

It may be possible, but your mate is looking at many thousands to get it done. Could be into five figures.

A former colleague of mine works at Enable so I have forwarded this page link to her and asked if she can get someone to respond. I hope that helps.

I wonder what the actual cost would end up being, just out of interest.

I also wanted a private fiber install done (in Upper Hutt). Figures mentioned started at $20000. Would have been a longer run & no friendly neighbours.

As others have alluded, be prepared for a significant number of zeroes.

I'm stuck on unreliable, slow copper at the moment. Fibre runs along my street feeding UFB to an area further up the street.
I enquired how much it'd be to get fibre to cross the street, and be installed to my place early. $25,000, in an Auckland suburb.

I’m in a similar situation in Ohoka. Enable fibre is 600m down the road then have a 600m drive. Went through the formal quote process. Initial estimate was at the $20k mark but quote came back at $60k.

For now I’m sticking with a dual RBI 4G and ADSL connection. I also have the option of a PTP WiFi link to a house that does have fibre. May want to consider these options as well if possible.

I would just wait. It will all be done eventually, and your install should be free.

How long would you expect? Eg my neighbour has it across the road (literally the other side of the same street), but we're zoned differently. We're not scheduled on any rollout map.

You may be classed as rural, but possibly your neighbour over the road isn't.

RuralResidental is the official zoning. I just wish there was some more clarity about what will or won't be covered long term.

Same conclusion I came to. Can't afford another house deposit, unfortunately. Stuck on 22/3.5 on a good day. 15/0.7 on a bad one. :(

I don't know anyone within LOS that has UFB, either. My pair of NBE‑5AC‑Gen2's are just collecting dust at the moment.
