The subject is impossible I know, but some interesting findings.

If you head to fast.com click on more info change the settings to 64 connections you get a reading in gbps all at least I did.

What I found interesting in this test as soon as I started the test with 64 connections Fair Use policy kicked in with Voyager.

2mins after my fibre connection was slowed to 5mbps then went back to 100mbps.

What do you think is happening.

Obviously a reporting issue showing the 3.1Gbps - the gpon doesnt have that much bandwidth available. But that drop you saw down to a few Mbps was probably just the Chorus network policer dropping packets as you hit your profile limit of 100Mbps (or whatever your plan is).

So I tried this out of curiosity and I got the same results, checking my live data usage it jumped 2gb immediately after testing.

It's proof that FAST testing isn't something to be relied upon.

What I suspect is happening is you are probably in Christchurch/The Tron and connected either to UFF or Enable. They have a more relaxed policer on their ingress (download) profile going to the ONT. So your first 5MB of data can go at full 1gbit speed before it gets policed down to the 100mbit speed.

As fast could interpret this as faster than 1gbit it will display the whacy speed.

Case in point with my signature with an upstream test on a 1gb symmetrical connection to the Spark speedtest server that testing servers methodology can be quite flawed and should be taken with a grain of salt when the numbers are very out of whack.
