Hey, please bear with as this may be a silly question but I've scoured the internet for an answer only to not get any really conclusive answer.

I am on Orcon's Gigabit plan and over ethernet I get full download and upload speed as shown below

But on my 2018 MacBook Pro literally 30cm from my Orcon modem router I get the result below

The question I have is why, over wifi, can I still get full upload speeds but for whatever reason my download speed is at 25-30% of what it is over wired ethernet?

(sorry if this is a silly question but I know there are some really switched on people in these forums that would be able to provide an answer)

More likely it's the way the speedtest is measuring the upload. Open Activity Monitor on the Mac and check what the network throughput is while doing the test.

This is what I get in activity monitor using speedtest. I get the same higher upload using iPhone X also.

It's just the fact that I get full download and upload speed in Speedtest using ethernet, but only full upload speed using 5Ghz wifi.

What about the network graph under the network tab? That will give an idea of actual throughput.

Interesting that the phone is the same - what router?

Here are the graphs of download and upload respectively

Router is Orcon's Netcomm NF18ACV.

Be interesting to know the actual connect rate - can you get that info from that router? option-click on the Mac's wifi icon in the menu bar, can't recall if that is the Tx or Rx rate.

Depends on may things, but I would start with not having the devices so close, as they wont be dropping the transmit power to compensate so will be overloading the front ends of the wifi devices.

Hi I just tried from about 10m and 15m away and I still get the same results of a download speed of approx 260-300mb/s
