I've been with Stuff Fibre on their 900mb plan for almost a year now, but the service has been less than stellar recently so I'm considering moving.  Probably to 2degrees.  I've only been in NZ for a year, so this is the first time I've moved provider.  How/what is the best way to handle this?  Do I give notice to Stuff when I place my order with 2degrees, or do 2degrees handle this as part of the transfer of service?

Just want to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible with minimal downtime.  Any advice welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks.

Arrange new connection near the end of your current ISP billing period, not after.

And when you give notice to current ISP, make sure they leave the connection open and no service cancel orders in place.

Otherwise new ISP can't set connection date and few hours on the phone trying to sort it! Found that the hard way.

Do NOT tell Stuff you are moving ISP or this can cause issues if they open an order on your connection

+1 for moving to 2degrees and you also get a $200+GST joining credit

2degrees will handle everything end to end but once your connection is active on 2degrees just check with Stuff fibre that your account is closed

Thanks both, sounds like 2degrees are a decent one to move to then?

I'll place an order with 2degrees and will not contact Stuff.  My only issue is that I was going to use the loophole provided by Stuff as they've stopped their monthly pix offer, which means I can get out of the term (I have 2 months left) without a penalty fee.  So not 100% sure on how best to manage it!

My next billing date is Friday (11th) of each month.

Thanks.  I guess I don't want to try and be stung for the $99 Stuff exit fee....

If my billing date is the 11th, I assume I'm better waiting till later in October before applying for the 2degrees connection?

Plenty of happy 2degrees customers here on GZ! I used a loop hole to get out of spark contract. Make sure you get them to confirm either by email or chat that you can exit contract without incurring a  penalty. I had to remind them and highlighted chat as got billed for it. Also you most likely will be required to give a months notice, check t & cs.

As far as I'm aware, this old cartoon is still relevant.

Thanks.  I'll place my order with 2degrees this PM.

Can you share the issues you've had with Stuff Fibre?

Recently its been better, but I had frequent drop outs and poor speeds/high latency.  They were superb when I first got it, but performance/reliability has definitely dropped off.  Although, to be fair, it has been better recently.  Comms aren't particularly great either so when there is an issue, you have to go chasing for more info.
