Feel a bit silly asking this but would appreciate advice from those that have gone through this.

What's the process for ordering fibre after Chorus have been through your street? We had the Chorus contractors through our street late August, early September laying the cable and generally making a bloody great mess. They've been gone now and tidied up maybe 4 to 5 weeks back. I haven't received any notification from my ISP that fibre is now available to order, should I be expecting an email or a letter box drop when it is available?

I've been keeping an eye on the Chorus website the last few weeks and up until this weekend just gone it was still saying that VDSL was the best connection I could get and fibre would be available from December. However I've just checked again tonight and it now says fibre is available at my address. I've then check my current ISPs address checker and it too says that fibre is available. Can I just go ahead and order it or do I have to wait for some sort of notification?

Just signup with your ISP and wait for the magic to happen.

Cheers, another question if I may.

If I want to change my ISP can I do this at the same time or is it better to do it separately? I'm out of contract at the moment and if I order fibre with my current ISP they'll want me to go back on a contract. Would it be better to move my VDSL first then order fibre with the new ISP?

Overall it won't matter all that much. The issue you'll likely run in to is you will need to arrange a fibre install, this could be a week it could be a month, it could even be several months depending on your situation and how busy chorus are. It makes giving a notice period a bit tricky with no firm date to terminate your current service.

If you want assurance of a connection, I would order fibre with the new ISP, then once you have it running, cancel the old ISP. You might end up paying a bit more, but it's simpler and you know you'll always have connection.

Cheers, I think I might do that. For the sake of 1 month overlap I'd rather have guaranteed coverage. Especially as we have no sky or UHF antenna and all of our media is streamed I hat to think how the wife would react if she had to miss Great British Bake-Off!

Now my next dilemma. Chorus, my current ISP and at least 3 other ISP's are all indicating that Fibre is available. However the ISP I want to go with is still saying that Fibre is not yet available at my address (as is the Geekzone broadband compare service).

Just checking back in here. All connected and all going well on my new fibre connection. Happy customer.
