So I finally decided to have a closer look at this cabinet on a walk with my son in my neighborhood.

It's an Enable UFB's Cabinet (Regents Park, Christchurch). The sticker has been on the cabinet for a while.

It made me laugh when I had a closer look.

Apologies in advance is Chorus have paid Enable to have their sticker on the cabinet.

Chorus and Enable are in competition with each other when Chorus doesn't have the UFB contract

Looks like the tech may have stuck the sticker on the wrong cabinet @chorusnz...

The people installing the stickers could have been people who don't work for Chorus and aren't techs. In at least some UFF areas, the stickers were put on by Cadets as a fundraiser.

Yeah, I live in Wanganui - a UFF area. We had one of the first completed fibre rollouts in the country, and about a year or so ago Chorus slapped these stickers up on all of their cabinets around town. They absolutely deserve a slap on the wrist for this, as it's contributing to consumer confusion about internet speeds. Not everyone knows that fibre is better than VDSL.

They are in competition with the local LFC, can you blame
them?

I don't think a responsible company should be sowing confusion in the marketplace by making a false insinuation that their inferior-in-every-way network is somehow a better option than fibre. The govt should be especially interested in clamping down on this, given the hundreds of millions they spent on getting fibre deployed.

When chorus lost the bidding for our area, they should acknowledge that in the eventual future, they'd no longer have much presence in the area.

Not to mention the visual pollution. A "low impact" cabinet shouldn't be a billboard.
