Hi,

Just trying to setup Contact fibre with a new modem. It seems to require a username and password (PPPoE). I can find those for most ISPs online but not for contact and apparently the phone support team will be back on Tuesday. Does anyone happen to know what Contact uses for those/how to set up fibre?

Any help appreciated!

God, Contact...I (and many others on here) wouldn't go near them, but anyway I found their modem user guide on their website:

https://contact.co.nz/support/broadband-troubleshooting#How-to-set-up-your-modem

Oddly, it doesn't seem to say anything about entering in your login/password in their documentation.

Doesn't appear to be any information about configuring a modem different to what they usually supply. Did they send you a modem? Are you able to extract settings from it?

Thanks guys!

Finally got it by changing the settings from PPPoE to IPoE which didn’t require a password.

Good luck, I think you'll need it with a connection from them (or any power company trying to do broadband, come to think of it).

Isn’t Contact just reselling Vocus broadband? Or are they running their own network?

Probably (I don't really know), but the fact their support line isn't even open today isn't a particularly good introduction for a new customer. That's one main concern I'd have right there.

Arbitrary non-empty values in the PPP service name field can be a cause of PPPoE not working.

It's stated above that connection is IPoE which doesn't require credentials.

Its DHCP not PPPoE for fibre AFAIK.

They usually provide a modem.

Looks like you'll have to call them tomorrow then, they must have some weird configuration setup that isn't on their website.

There are no weird configuration settings. Either PPPoE or IPoE (DHCP client) with or without the vlanid=10.
