what is the best isp for gaming at the moment i play on australian servers mainly

and for crying out loud no1 say xnet

For gaming? As much as I hate ANC, I'd say Maxnet because they peer at the APE (so you'll get better NZ pings), and they don't use Global-Gateway (which is relatively famous for packet loss and odd routing)

So, I'd say either Telstra or Maxnet. (Telstra would probably be better overall if you factor in speeds, too)

so it look like it is going to be telecom as telstra seem to have routing problems to some australian servers including the ones that i play on the most
so what do you guys think is telecom good for gaming
i know about six months ago i would of called anyone thinking of joing telecom crazy but it seems they have got there act together now while all the small isp are failing bably

I know nothing about gaming, but if you need a router Telecom is offering a free TG585 (Thomson Wireless) on a 3GB or higher broadband plan in lieu or the normal free single PC modem on the standard 12 month term.www.telecom.co.nz/bboffer

i have a router
but if i dont go for any of the free deals do i still have a contract and have to pay a early diconnection fee

Yes, Telecom broadband is only available on a 12 or 24 month contract.

Well also depends on connection , Good upload speed , Interleaving off aswell

I am with Telecom and i get good pings to aussie severs 57 to Game arena and good 20's to New Zealand and that's with interleaving off and good upload speed well more than 128k ..

Well if you checkout that thread about servers with crazy ping, someone on telecom shows that they had just as bad ping to it also, not sure if that got fixed also. Both ISP's are known to have temporary routing problems to australia every now and then.

I've got a business advanced plan with interleaving turned off. I'm impressed with the low latency to NZ servers (around 10ms) and international (~40ms to ausi BF2 servers).

The transfer rates are great too.

I've got a Maxnet FS/FS connection and they do use GGI for some ruotes, Telstra for others, and Asianetcom/pacnet for others still and its not always the same so it depends on load etc.

I'm happy to do some tracerts for you. NZ pings are around 10 to 12 ms.
