Hi GZ,

I'm moving into a new apartment complex this weekend which currently does not have Fibre installed in the building :( So will have to sign up to 4G wireless/copper in the meantime. However, the property manager has offered us some deals for cheap Fibre (When it's installed) and cheaper wireless through a company called Smartcall. I have never heard of it before and was just wondering if anyone has any experience with this ISP?

If the quality of the English on their website is anything to go by, I would be pretty reluctant. A lack of even basic proofreading (spacing, localization to NZ English spelling, unnatural phrasing, etc.) as well as unverifiable claims doesn't fill me with confidence.
The site also has an option for Chinese language, which indicates to me that they're targeting that market as a priority.

"UnicomNZ & Smartcall is the largest and most influential telecom operator in New Zealand. We put customer service as our top priority, UnicomNZ & Smartcall is honored to provide quality service. We pay attention to the needs of each customer and provide you with the most professional solutions. We are looking forward to serving your business and family wholeheartedly!"

Just my opinion though.

As above, "UnicomNZ & Smartcall is the largest and most influential telecom operator in New Zealand" would be a bit of a red flag on it's own.

So Smartcall get their network from Unicom, and they're both at the same address.

As Stu said, pretty big call to make :D Love to see their proof behind that claim.

Looks like their systems are run out of 220 Queen St as well - which is not a DC I recommend myself after a bad experience a number of years ago.

I think some of these apartments are doing FTTB then using the old building wiring with G.Fast or VDSL - Never the same as "True Fibre"

Yeah their website also set immediate alarm bells for me too, am yet to find someone who is actually signed to them. I might start contacting other ISP's and see what they can actually offer/ provide some clarity on the state of connectivity at the property.
