My router is currently syncing at about 1.8mbs - Is there a way to improve that?

I've done an isolation test to no improvement

If running it off the main jackpoint during an isolation test (ensure you restart the modem during the isolation test so it can resync) doesnt improve, then a splitter likely wont improve much if your house wiring is good. If your house wiring is bad like ours was, it will improve your sync speed by getting a central splitter.

You could get a better modem - cheapie dlink's that telecom used to give out sync a lot lower than their new thompson ones. Dynalink modems and others with broadcom chipsets tend to sync higher.

Some modems, especially those with broadcom chipsets (eg dynalink) can be tweaked with a program called DMT tools. This allows you to decrease your SNR (signal to noise ratio aka noise margin) which will increase your sync rate, but decrease stability if you set it too low. In general a SNR of 7ish will be stable on most phone lines, which is what vodafone and orcon set the port SNR to on their LLU networks.

Try this guide I wrote.
If that doesn't help, there's instructions on what to try next at the bottom of my post.
