Hmm .. the only reason why you would want a wireless adapter is if the modem is located at a different location than the computer. It is always best to have a wired solution (i.e. putting in a network adapter instead). You will still need a modem regardless of the 'router' if you go 'broadband' and you can get a modem with multiple ethernet port. What are you trying to achieve?
im trying to get a few mmo's i play onto the other computer, the 98, so i can have that one doing less important things for me in those games. so i can have 2 instances of the same game going at the same time.
basically, i want the 98 computer to b solely a gaming computer, while the newer one is gaming/work.
i was planning on getting this: http://shop4.frys.com/product/5665421;jsessionid=lTJhVFh6IK6SSq8DSB5Tww**.node1?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
or this one: http://shop4.frys.com/product/5772132?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
which one of these modems is better?
i also would like a modem that allows me to use the phone and the internet simultaneously, cuz my mom is always complaining about that. so what type of modem would i need?
Of the two you have listed (neither of which I have experience of) go for the Zoom, simply because it has a 4port ethernet swtich built in so you can connect your two PCs to network together and to the internet, and because it supports ADSL2+ which gives you the option of higher interenet speeds if you ISP support that. Both of the listed modems contain NAT routing. Naturally if you want wireless capability then you will pay more for that feature.
All DSL modems allow simultaneous access to both the internet and voice services.
now that we settled that problem, i think i have a couple more questions that i need answered.
my screen seems to 'lag' a little when i scroll down. when i am not scrolling down everything works just fine.
is this lag caused by how old the OS/comp is or is it something to do with the graphics card, or neither?
any suggestions on how to fix that problem?
since im using this older computer to play online games, im worried that it might
not b able to take the 2-3 games that i plan to have on this comp. i dont really know
how much MB/GB of memory it has, but the games i play range from about 670MB-1GB.
so question is, should i get a flashdrive or some external device to store games on to use with this comp?
I would seriously concider spending the $ on a XP upgrade. I recently had to load 98SE back onto a 1.2GHz 512MByte laptop that the kids use as a tempory measure till I sorted out a XP licence issue. I was horrified how badly 98 worked (used to think it was great) with current software compared to running XP on the same machine.
