A colleague has an ASUS DSL-AC68U router with his current DSL internet set-up.

He has asked if this router can be retained if/when he goes to fibre.

From a quick look at the specs, the router is dual DSL/Fibre, with both Fibre WAN (RJ45) port and DSL (RJ11) port .... if after going to fibre he wants to retain his landline via VOiP, would the RJ11 port work for that??

yes buts its a DSL model so may not give the best performance on a higher speed plan

VOIP will depend on who provides the service

That RJ11 is for the xDSL connection.

I wouldn't use this router on fibre. If you want to use VoIP then the easiest would be to use the provided router from the ISP.

If you go with 2degrees they provide the FRitz!Box, which is very capable. If you go other providers they will give the router that work with their service.

Saving a few dollars now will just give some headache later.

Unless it's a BS3 or 4, which if its residential it won't be, then it's a type 300

@cyril7 ... so essentially a modem and router all-in-one now?

Hi, it has the potential to be operated as a Residential Gateway, however no RSP's have taken that option up, so it operates just as an ONT, ie just the modem part of your network, you still require a seperate router.
