Hi Everyone,

My son is an avid Minecraft gamer with his Cousin, however since changing to Trustpower we cannot get any external games open whatsoever.

It works fine on the LAN, so I've tried a few things, putting the phone on a static IP and placing it into the DMZ.

Adding all the port forwards you see below.

Rebooting the ONT/Modem multiple times without success.

We're on the exact same setup we had with Orcon, only our ISP has changed.

Any ideas please??

Yes, I think Trustpower are in the CG-NAT camp, or at least were.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Did you request static IP from Trustpower? Sounds like a CGNAT issue...

You might get better results using something like Hamachi (https://www.vpn.net)...

Thank you, you guys are awesome!

I've been tearing my hair out trying to find out the issue and no amount of Googling was helping. However from a crash course on CGNAT confirms there's absolutely no way to resolve on my end.

I've disabled IPv6 (poor performance on certain websites) would this be helped at all if I reenabled it and disabled IPv4? Sorry if this is a niaive question.

Worth trying IPv6 - it will need to be enabled for all people in the game.

IPv6 didn't work, but that's ok, I've flicked a message through to Trustpower. Thanks so much guys, I really was stumped here.

Yeah, ANY sort of self hosting will require a static or at least public IP. Good luck :)

As others have mentioned, it will likely be CG-NAT as most connections have this applied by default.

If you want to PM me your account number, I should be able to remove this for you tonight.

You have two options - Either you can have a public IP which is subject to change when your modem is restarted, or a Static IP is available for $5 per month.

Cheers,

Tane

Modern games should use UPNP to dynamically open the ports required to the source IP address required so you don't need to open ports like you have done

every port forward from an "any" source IP is a recipe to get hacked
