Hey guys,

Recently I've had issues connecting to my Emby media server when I'm not on my local network. This was working fine for about a year, before one day it went down and none of the usual troubleshooting resolved the issue. Eventually confirmed that my ISP has enabled CGNAT, preventing me from being able to set up required port forward.

My current ISP is through Contact NZ. They've confirmed there are no workarounds for me, and they can't set up static IPs. They recommended I look elsewhere for my needs.

So with that, can anyone recommend an ISP where I'll have no issues with port forwarding? Preferably at no extra cost, but I'll pay for a static IP if needed.

Preference right now is Vodafone I think, but only as I can get it a bit cheaper with my phone plan.

Cheers!

I’m currently with Vodafone and no CGNAT. Service performs as expected and is cost effective.
Haven’t used Voyager but would use them over 2 Degrees. All three provide IPv6.

I must be living under a rock, had not heard about Voyager until now!

It sounds like Voyager, or Vodafone based on the all-clear above. Will look at the two closely.

Thanks for the input guys, really appreciate it :D

2degrees with static IP (otherwise it will be CGNAT). Or Voyager seems to be well recommend.

Just wanted to note that Voyager don't charge a monthly fee for a static IP address, instead it's a one-off cost ($15 I think).

You can also put in a request to get allocated a dedicated range of IPv6 addresses.

Voyager, Orcon, 2 Degrees are all decent options.

I'm with Orcon presently as I get a good deal. We have Voyager at the office, and a lot of our clients are with them. Support is excellent. Orcons support has been excellent as well.

2 degrees is CGNAT by default. You generally have to pay monthly for a static IP.

Been and Orcon customer for over 15 years now, never had a reason to move from them.

Don't have a static IP but Ive had the same IP for roughly 10 years now[entire time we've been living here], when I enquired about this they told me they use "sticky IPs"

Their contact centre is NZ based if that means anything to you , I had a very good experience with them a little while back when I had a question about their google wifi promotion.. I didnt qualify for it as it was a promo for new customers, unprompted the guy asked if he could put me on hold so he could check something.. after 30 seconds he came back and said I could have a months credit in stead.. legend.

They also have IPV6 and seem to be first to market with all new tech such as hyperfibre.. 2 gig, 4 gig and most recently 8 gig plans.

I highly rate their network performance and reliability, in Auckland at least

Bigpipe is another option, no IPv6 but on the Spark network so it will go as fast as your connection. Static IP is a $45 one off from memory.

Voyager and BigPipe both recommended here - used both with statics (one off fee).

I’m on 2D with a free static but if I was going to get charged a premium for it I would be moving. They have worked as expected and I have had to call them… ever. So email support doesn’t sound like too much of an issue.
