Hi All!

Are there any offerings similar to 100/100, 200/200, 500/500 etc?
It seems nowadays the offering is either 100/20 or 1000/500. Other speeds can easily be achieved with soft provisioning/rate limiting, so it surprises me that I haven't been able to find any other offerings.

Appreciated as always!
Dan

BigPipe offer 100/100

Others offer it, but as a business plan, so generally looking at another $30 above consumer.... yet get the same service as such :)

Whats the point when the majority of the input cost is the fiber circuit to cripple it to a lower speed just to be able to sell a few dollars cheaper.

Christchurch is 200/100 most ISP’s. If it got withdrawn I’d probably change to Sky’s one. Already have start up so would save money. At present happy with 100 upload, but think 20 upload is a joke.

It's mostly dictated by the Chorus wholesale prices. There is only a $9 a month difference between 100/20 and 1000/50, so little business case for ISPs to do their own rate limiting.

200/20, 200/100 and 200/200 now costs more wholesale than 1000/500.

And it’s worse for ISPs as they now need to support a new speed plan and debug another permutation when someone calls the help desk for a very small user base who would want it. Thus making the plan more expensive.

That thread only mentioned download speeds, and was interested in one above 200 and below 950.

100 is fine for me on download, but the upload seems limited at 20 when not on a max plan in most places, not sure what OPs minimum down/up speeds they are after.

Also have not checked prices recently, but when have if not on a discounted plan seems to be $20 price difference or higher for max plans at retail charges.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Both threads are wanting plans with throughputs higher than 100/20 and lower than 900/500; which direction is immaterial. The price difference between these is so little that it makes no commercial sense to have an offering between them.

On 2degrees 1000/500 rock solid connection $80 per month πŸ‘Œ

I don't even need this speed 100/20 would still be fine for 100% of my online usage but I get it cause it's sooooo cheap

Most people would only get that as a sign up offer and without mobile on account another $10 added to price. $90 is still an excellent price.

Usually when it comes to second year 2degrees are a lot tighter with their offers to existing customers.

Without any discount their full price is $106 for max, $17 more then entry level. Maybe the wholesale price difference is small, but when almost a 100% markup is done it’s almost double $9.

No way the 200/200 is more than what I pay for 1000/500

Yeah, I too was happy with the 900/400 plan with 2D when I was paying $85 (and, more recently, $75) a month, but now my one year of the free upgrade has come to pass, the bill I got today is up to $96, and I assume this will go up to $116 when I lose another special discount next year.

I'm seriously thinking of dropping back to 100/20 - and I certainly won't be staying on the 900/400 when I start getting charged $116 - but I had also been thinking it would be nice to have another option, especially with a faster upload speed. (And, yes, I have read the arguments presented here, so understand the rationale!)

Given that prior to fibre I was stuck on 10/1 vdsl. I'm personally more than happy to pay for 900/400 after being stuck on low speed for ages. While 200/200 or similar would most likely be more than enough I've never seen a plan where it made more sense for me to go to it over 900/400
