Notice the majority of the lower West Coast is still offline today, mobile too. Assume it must be a nasty Fibre break - anyone here have any further info on it?

ETA for repair will be around 1pm. They located a 600 meter section of cable that has faults, sourced a suitable length of cable from Christchurch early this morning and will overlay between the two trenches dug at each side of the section.

600m, crikey. Thanks for the info. Would always love to see pictures of this stuff but don't see it too much. Guess some of it is commercially sensitive.

Like this one...bet that operator still has nightmares about it haha.

Yeah service given and a temp repair appears to be in place now. Still will be ongoing micro outages by the looks due to the temporary nature of the fix.

From the article linked,

"Technicians were working at the site where the damage happened.

“It runs over private ground and the paddocks are flooded. We are looking at running a temporary fibre cable to restore services, but we're unable to say when this work will be completed.”"

So I guess the actual damage area is much smaller, but with flooded access they are picking the 2 nearest good points they have access to and splicing between them...

I guess there are lots of people waiting for the Haast pass fibre link to complete the ring and give much more security...
