Just wondering if anyone else has their ADSL plugged into the Phone Jack which Sky TV would of installed when they setup Sky digitital?

I was originally running my dynalink router off the main jack in the house but needed to move it and have since got it running on the phone jack Sky installed, I did notice around a 1mb drop in speed (from 5,7mb to 4.7mb) but didn't really think that much about it. Was talking to someone last night who used to work for Telecom who noted a number of complaints about the jacks sky installed and that they do a real slack job hence I'm thinking about re-wireing it.

When i got sky digital, the tech rewired a standalone jackpoint that had been disconnected to connect the digital too. I said to him that dont worry about connecting the phone line to the digital. He insisted that it was an easy fix so let him liven the jackpoint again.

I have another jackpoint which my adsl runs through and i believe he took a line to the digitial's jackpoint from the other jackpoint with my ads and a cordless phone.

I also noticed a drop in the synch speed but it didnt affect my overall performance.

The funny thing is certain sky channels do the blocky loss of signal thing (perfectly fine weather) and it was only certain channels.I thought ill call the tech to check out and one day, i disconnected the cordless phone to plug something else in and guess what.. all the channels doing the blocky/pixelling worked perfect.. Plugged the cordless in.. then the blockiness comes back.. only happens on 2 channels.. ESPN and TV3...

Wonder if it's related to the wiring as well???

BTW, DJShadow i know you're in my area.. Nawton or Dinsdale.. Have you seen the new cabinets on Breckons Ave and Sunnyside Ave?

I know we're due to get cabinetised in a few months time.. can't wait!

I've just shifted the router to a different phone jack (the master I believe) and have already gained 300k of connect speed, still showing 46db of attenuation tho, normally my dynalink needs a few days before it finds the max speed it can do on the line.

Yeah I've seen the new cabinet on Sunnyside Road, the chorus website says its going to be fully switched on, on the 15th of Jan.
Still not done any work on the one on Grandview road but I noticed chorus techs working on some of the "cones" near it, feel sorry for them working in this heat!

Good to hear that you had at least a slight improvement in your connect speed. My line's attenuation is normally 53 db with synch speed down around 4500 kbs.

It's another scorcher today! 28 right now.. I was driving down Hyde Avenue towards Ellicott Road and the second to last street on the left had 2 Chorus vans. These guys were lucky because they were directly under some big trees which shadowed both vans. Couldnt see a cabinet though. Cant imagine any domestic work requires 2 vans because that would mean 4 techs to do the job which is very unlikely?

The cabinet for my street used to be on Crawshaw Avenue but has been shifted to Breckons Ave in between Crawshaw and Odlin Crescent.

What's the link to see when the Cabinets will be upgraded?

Edit: Just seen the chorus website, as you said DHShadow, 15 Jan for the F cabinet and 19 Jan for the K cabinet. I think im the K cabinet which is about 50 to 60 metres away from my house.

Ill email Chorus to confirm.

I think our existing bad wiring combined with the sky tech's wiring is the reason why installing a central splitter doubled sync speed from 2000 to 4000.

Yeah since moving the DSL back to the main jack i've not noticed the increase in connect speed yet that i've been expecting, may have to try the basic test tomorrow of pulling everything from the phone jacks just incase its something local.

Yeah I think within a month or 2 nearly or all Te Rapa Cabinets will be in place, still 3 months to wait before my cabinet on the Frankton exchange comes online

It may be a false trail, but my 2.4 Ghz cordless phone was interfering with my Pace620 Sky Digital receiver. Only found out after a visit from a Sky Technician

, shame the customer services person didn't think to ask any questions. Sky decoder is not connected to the jack point as I don't do Box Office etc, so not line interference, but phone caused blockiness on a couple of channels. I changed it to a 5.8 GHz phone and no problems since.
