can anyone recommend a good internet traffic counter (preferably freeware) which counts how much usage you have used from when you start it. i have a low cap so i would like to quickly check hwo much i have used reliable.

What router do you use?

Some routers have the capability to run custom firmware that include additional scripts/features to count data on the WAN interface.
These will tend to be a lot more accurate than a counter run on a host.
