I cannot account for 6Gb of download since Sat and my ISP wants to charge $20 to provide the logs/reports

Does anyone have any ideas/freeware that will allow me to determine the source of this traffic ?

Paradise use to provide these stats to their users

I think it would be too late now, unless you have log of all your traffic stored somehow.

Mauricio thank you for the reply.

It is uncertain whether this download is still occuring but I would still appreciate any suggestions on software that does allow to log the source and port. My freeware soft firewall [Zonealarm] logs but not the actual send and received bytes. My router does not have this ability either

Try Netlimiter, there is a free monitoring only version (as opposed to monitoring and limiting) available. Netlimiter is the only currently supported per-application monitoring application available (that I can find from my extensive searching in any case). There are a few others out there, but development and support for them has ceased years ago.

If you want something a bit more basic then check out Netmeter - http://www.metal-machine.de/readerror/

Main advantage with Netlimiter is it can show you per application whats using bandwidth where as Netmeter just monitors your total network traffic.

Thank you for your replies. Does either netlimiter and netmeter provide the source ip address ?

Tonight I'll turn off my modem & router and if the download continues [or rather my accountable downloaded traffic continues] I'll be having words with my ISP !

Tomorrow I'll load up these tools as required

And if they still want me to pay $20 to look into it I'll tell them I'm leaving.

Netlimiter monitors on a per-PC basis, however it is possible to monitor multiple PCs in a single console (this feature may not be available in the free version).

If you wanted to monitor network wide without reliance on software on each PC you'd need a router that was capable of facilitating this (A Linksys router with DD-WRT installed for instance and then running RFlow Collector). However, this doesn't give you a per-application / port breakdown (at least not without exporting the data to a database first).

I use netlimiter. Just install it on all your pcs. However if you have a wireless router you should check that it is secured.
