Hi, I currently have no internet or phone service connected, but am looking to do so.

I do not actually require a telephone at all, and would basically never use it.

I have looked at nzconnection.net and there is a lot of great information there, but what I am after now, is recommendations for a good provider.

My needs:
ADSL2+
Stable connection
Acceptable national and international bandwidth
3-10GB data

My usage:
VPN / Citrix
General web browsing
Youtube
Email
Occaisional (like maybe an ISO a fortnight etc) heavy downloading, but usually from normal websites - I don't use P2P technology
Static IP would be useful, but not required
I don't play online games

I am in Hastings.
I would rather pay a little more for a good quality internet service.

Dude, we could be twins...but you are a bit taller...kinda like Arnie and deVito Laughing

Anyhow, Hastings broadband is pretty bad in my experience... and getting worse. The only really stable provider around here is Airnet, but they are a bit pricey, and I'm talking about their radio feed, not ADSL.

The real problem tends to be our central exchange on St Aubyn's St, across from The Warehouse Stationary. Too many times my own ISP and client ISP issues have come down to outages in that exchange, where Telecom's equipment is at fault - a router needing to be reset or whatever.

I am connected via ADSL to Xnet (World Exchange Comms), which was great until recently, and they have had many unexplained downtimes this year. (3-4 a week, lasting up to 2 hours!)

Many clients are on Xtra, and have lots of issues, INHB, up+down like a yoyo, Paradise, sloooooow. Tlestraclear has pretty good lines, but sucky service.

Hope that helps.

try snap.co.nz, they are the cheapest naked dsl provider for 10GBs of data usage + they provide static ips upon request.
