Hi guys,

We are in the process of taking over a property which will require internet access to seven rooms.

I’m trying to locate the ONT and figure out what the wireless access points are.

I have not been able to find the ONT.

Can someone please advise what these boxes are and where the ONT could be?

Behodar:

There was another box in the next room that looks similar, I assume this is the wireless extender and they must have ran the cable under ground?

Uhhh

This property has two ONTs

I would be confirming the serials that should start with ALC

Yip, looks like there is a second fibre line into the house,

Both the devices you have posted are ONTs... are they all flashing and connected???f

From the other photos it appears to have a crawlspace under the house, so running cableto other rooms shouldn't be a problem,

Is it possible that one is used as an ONT as one is used as a wireless extension via network cable?

No.

They're two ONTs. Nothing more.

Thank you. Is it possible to have two fibre lines going to one house?

Secondly, why doesn't the second ONT have the grey/phone line, more skinny cable looking cable going into it?

Good question. Would need more photos but would likely be different RJ45 Ethernet cables or possibly RJ11 pots.

You could have technically up to 8 fibre connections with those ONTs. Providing you can find 8 providers willing to provision them all....

But I would be confirming what the address those two ONTs technically fall under and possibly also which one is actually in chorus provisioning and which one you'd actually like to use(hoping that record keeping is up to scratch, hence me tagging WheelBarrow).

Thanks, we don't move in for a few weeks. I'll give Chorus a call.

It'll be an office environment spanning about 150sqm over multiple rooms. I'll need to get someone to run some cables in the crawl space... fun times.

I’m away for the long weekend but @MaximeN is correct - the previous occupant had two ONTs installed, presumably because they ran a business from home or something and wanted to keep the connections separate.
All you need to do is check the serial numbers (sticker with QR code on the left side from memory), decide which one you want to use, and quote the applicable serial number to your RSP to ensure they activate the correct one. It will start with ALCL..

You cannot bridge ONTs together and the wireless functionality within them is now unusable as we don’t offer that anymore.

https://www.chorus.co.nz/q/model-type-300 might need an update :)

"Chorus 3rd Generation ONT (Type 300) can turn into a residential gateway (RGW) with WiFi capabilities."

You'd be better off talking to your provider, they will be able to reach out to Chorus via the correct channels to determine what's what - as per Wheelbarrow's comment above.
