Moved today, download speed is less than 1MB/s, tried different locations. Previously was getting 40+ MB/s. average. Browsing seems ok but streaming buffers. What download speeds are others getting? Speedtest shows 290/96 but what good is that when actual download speeds are slow & streaming.
Can someone on Contact please test from this link - https://tools.hostnetworks.com.au/testfiles/

Their support phone number says wait time 3 hours lol. @Devoli

It is worth explaining what your setup is and if you've tried other devices along with what additional troubleshooting you've done.

Hi there,

That doesn't sound good - I've had a chat with my team so expect a reply shortly.

Thanks for the heads up.

Hi There,

Are you able to send me some details via DM so we can have a look?

I just did a test to that URL and speeds aren't that great, so it might be something upstream that we can have a look at.

Cheers

Callum (Devoli)

Set up is same as before. What details do you mean, router model etc.? Have already tried turning off the ONT for a while etc., rebooting router. Connect laptop using Ethernet to test. Speeds were fine until this morning, I downloaded some data from OneDrive at around 41 MB/s, changeover must have happened around 11iss, lost internet for a few minutes that's when I realized I've been moved. There was no notification from Contact although I was told I'll get an email with connection date etc.

@callumb @Devoli any update? Can anyone else who is on Contact try some download tests by downloading large files?

I've found Contact Broadband to be fairly patchy over the past 2-3 weeks here in Kapiti, particularly getting traffic to my work on Spark (I appreciate Spark isn't the cheapest/easiest to peer with).

It also seems there's something weird with Devoli's Auckland speedtest server - I can only get around 30Mbps download speed test results, compared a more normal ~280MBps to Vetta/Chorus etc

I downloaded one of your ISOs at a fairly steady 1,000KB/s  (ranging 700-1200) on 300/100 Chorus connection with ethernet connection back to Edgerouter ER-X.

Weird as one of our team works in Kapiti and she is very vocal so I thought I'd know if there was an issue by now ;-)

Can you please flick a note to karl@devoli.com with more details and I'll pass it on to the team so we can have a look for you?

Cheers, Karl Rosnell

Hey, thanks for the follow up. I'm aware that Callum did a bunch of tests yesterday based on the feedback you provided to him and couldn't find an obvious issue however we are keen to get it right. We also spoke with the Contact team who are going to reach out so we can work together on solving this. I'll stay across it.

I switched to Contact Energy for fibre broadband in mid-June 2024, and the transition was smooth. I originally signed up with MyRepublic (MR) back in 2015 when they entered the NZ market, and last year MR customers were moved to 2degrees. I never had issues with either provider. But then 2degrees announced they were going to raise their prices to $92 for 900 Mbps speeds starting July 2024, after the one-year transition period from MR.

Since I was already using Contact for power, they sent me a promo code (ADD400) offering the same 900 Mbps speed for $95, plus a $400 credit. It was a no-brainer. They scheduled the switch for 10 AM, and bang on time, I was cut off from 2degrees. I reconfigured my own router and mesh system (I’ve never used a telco router), and I was back online in 15 minutes.

So far, Contact Energy's fibre broadband works well. The speeds are the same, and while the latency is a bit higher, it's not a dealbreaker. Overall, I’m happy with the service, and the $400 credit is a nice bonus.

I am based in Auckland, speeds tested over Ethernet cable. On my 5 yr old Android phone I get about 5xx-6xx Mbps dl speeds.

Was still having issues with slow download speeds, especially downloading from OneDrive using browser & OneDrive Client so called Contact again yesterday & they moved me to Max Fibre plan on 26/06 to test, no change in download speeds except the speedtest showed 750/486 approx. Called them back late afternoon & asked them to put me back to Fast Fibre which they did on the same day & speeds have improved but still slow for OneDrive, bit faster using browser (Client still same) & also speeedtest results now show 315-319/115-118. So, whatever happened during the plan moves has fixed something at least & there is some improvement. Would be good to speak to someone from Devoli but it's hard as I have to go through Contact. Would be nice to find out how speeds are more now.

@quebec It is impossible to tell from your testing where your problem lies.

You need to -
1) Ensure you're using Ethernet(!!)
2) Specify a Speedtest server (Devoli Auckland), you're using multi-connections that appear to change every time you do a Speedtest.
3) Show what URL you're downloading the Ubuntu release from - this can change as the site will direct you to a different mirror depending on load etc. Perhaps use this: https://mirror.fsmg.org.nz/ubuntu-releases/noble/ubuntu-24.04-desktop-amd64.iso

The fact of the matter is there are no other complaints on Devoli from what I've seen on here. It appears to be an issue with your setup and you really need to do more investigation to ensure it isn't just your device or setup causing this.

Also as above, explain your setup on here. What router are you using? What operating system? What other devices have you tested with? etc...

Here's a test using Devoli & single connection & download speed using your link. How come speeds improved on 26th June after the switch& back to same plan & have been fine until this morning between 11 & 12 when I lost internet for a while? Nothing on my set up has changed, never had issues with previous ISP & everything was fine between 26th June & this morning, speedtest results 320/120 average regardless of server & download speeds 35-36 MB/s

@callumb @Devoli, is it possible to check what was changed at around 11.20 this morning, spoke to Contact who say Devoli changed something but they don't know what & why.
