Woosh sent this today to all users:

"This email is to give you notice of planned changes to our Woosh High-Speed Broadband Internet plans. On 2nd February 2005 will introduce "speed limiting" to all our plans in place of excess megabyte charging.

This speed limiting change will be introduced for two main reasons:
1) Due to customer feedback regarding excess megabyte charging and their preference for speed limiting; and
2) To improve the performance of the Woosh network for the benefit of all our customers.
With this change in effect, all our data plans will have unlimited data downloads in a given month. The High Data Speed Cap becomes the point at which your plan speed will be speed limited rather than the point at which excess megabyte charges start to apply. On our Woosh Express 1 plan that High Speed Data Cap is 1 Gigabyte. On the Woosh Everyday plan the High Speed Cap will be 10 Gigabytes from 2nd February 2005.

At the point in a given 30-day period that you exceed your High Speed Data Cap, your plan speed will be reduced to the equivalent of dial-up speed. This speed will vary depending on what you are doing at a given time, but will typically range between 40Kbps and 80Kbps and remain at this level until the end of the 30 day period.

Woosh is continuously improving the performance of our network. We are committed to rolling out the Woosh network across New Zealand, but equally focussed on a robust, high performing network for all our customers. One area we have identified in recent months that has been impacting network performance for our customers is the excessive data usage each month of a handful of customers. Collecting excess megabyte charges from these customers may help our business, but it does not improve network performance for our customers.

Today, we are also suspending the Bandwidth on Demand option from Woosh. In place of the Bandwidth on Demand option from the 2nd February we will be offering a Top Up option to all customers on all plans where you will be able to purchase additional data to top up your current High Speed Data Cap. We will be sending you further details of this and other services from Woosh very soon."
