Hello,

Could someone post me a link to the best value modem/router for Contact Energy Fibre Broadband please?

I would like to buy a wifi 7 modem/router to use on Contact Energy's ISP. I might need settings too. Attached is the ONT I will use for my internet. I think the ONT in the image attached is standard. My house has been wired for optic fibre previously so thats one job done.

I don't know much about compatible modems / routers hence I ask here. Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Michael

Thanks for replying. I see Contact Energy do TP–Link HX510 Mesh Wi-Fi Unit, which is wifi 6. Can someone recommend any compatible wifi 7 unit please? I'll consider the prices later.

I 99.9999% think you don't need Wifi 7 at all. Just get the RSP supplied Wifi 6 gear and chances are it'll work just fine.

Do I need wifi 7 you ask. Probably not... Just did more research... I was kind of future proofing asking for wifi 7.

Contact Energy Broadband:

Max Fibre Unlimited
877 / 496 Mbps

That's slower than wifi 6 at Max speeds. 4.8Gb/s...

The TP–Link HX510 Mesh Wi-Fi does 3Gbps which comes with the ISP modem.

Thanks guys and gals.

Nah stick with the free Wifi6. You'd need Wifi7 adaptors for all your devices as well to make use of the faster speed, but your internet wont make any use of it, at least nothing noticeable and paid for it.

Only reason Id buy "new" Wifi is if I needed the high speed across the local network, but most people dont need it, long as it can let them stream their 1080p Youtube videos and Netflix, play games online etc.

Wifi7 would be handy if you were streaming 8k video.....

OP you suggested you want the best value router. Wifi 6 is the best value for your use case.

Note you will not get anywhere near near 4.8 Gb/s speeds. At typical distances from the router or access point more like 800-1000 Mb/s but depends on the router and access device.

Given your internet connection is 877 / 496 Mbps how do you plan on getting 4.8Gb/s or even 3Gbps over it? yes you can do between devices but why?

Wi-Fi 7 isn't needed for the vast majority of people. If you can't describe how you need it then you probably don't need it,

Its not going to be a must have thing for a few years at least.

Yeah in the previous post I figured I only need wifi 6... So I'm going for wifi 6 👍. Thanks everyone. The ISP's TP–Link HX510 Mesh Wi-Fi only comes with 2 ethernet ports (eg. Lan 1, Lan 2) so...

I was wondering if anyone knows a good wifi 6 router/mesh that comes with at least 4 ethernet ports and a wan port?

I rent a house with 4 x cat6 cables in the wall. I have seen you guys mention great router/mesh deals in the past but I don't know what will work with my ISP Contact Energy Broadband.

If you want extra ports... just buy a gigabit switch. You can get one for $50 easily.

I use the TP link Modem. No issues. Simple plug and plug with some configurable bits. Fine for standard home us.
I run a switch off it in a central location to feed my other data plugs.

I have an old Fritz 7490 that a use a a secondery AP to improve Wifi in a distant room (via wired plug) . You can also by more TP link units to use instead, - wired or mesh.
