Anyone with Simply Broadband on their Fibre Essentials plan as planning to move from 2 Degrees? Any gotchas I need to be aware of? Mainly browsing and working from home 2 days a week.

$85 with 2 Degrees vs $60 with Simply Broadband for the same speed.

Not sure where $85 is coming from with reference to the quoted 2degrees cost, but their Fibre Starter plan on 2D's website is $65/mo for the apples-to-apples comparison. Then it's a case of does an extra $5 matter when you consider you are getting the service directly from the people that run it, and so on.

Edit: Extra $20 for 2degrees seems to be +$5 for modem rental (so you'd need to add in buying a new one to the Simply Broadband costs), and +$15 for homeline (which Simply Broadband don't provide).

So it sounds like you used a particular broadband comparison website who seem to list Simply as the top result, at all times.

In my opinion, this is a shady practice as Simply Broadband is also owned by this particular broadband comparison website and it is only when you dig deeper you'll see this:

They're reselling Devoli behind the scenes which ain't bad. But you're dealing with a reseller meaning they have zero control over the network. The $60 plan is also for 100/20Mbit. There are plenty of other providers around offering cheaper plans like this but Simply Broadband is a reseller I would not personally touch for moral reasons given it appears from doing a search on this website their parent company are using their position as a leading broadband comparison website to steer customers towards their own product (that they're simply reselling) over the many others they're supposed to be comparing against. It's just seems really shady to me.

I also don't understand the price you're paying - $85 is like 500/100Mbit, not 100/20Mbit through 2degrees - 100/20 is $55/mo if you have a 2degrees on account mobile. I would recommend calling them to ask.

Per my edit above, I'm pretty sure it's the base $65 + $5 modem rental and + $15 Landline (based on the place an order page anyway) which would make the $85 without an on account mobile.

If OP switches to Simply they'd be losing their Landline (which they mightn't mind, but if that's the case, they can just ask 2degrees to remove it, or port it to Hero if they want to keep the number), and they'd also need to buy a router to use with Simply.

Thanks for the comments — they made me review what I’m actually paying.

I realised I got it wrong thinking the total was $85. The base price is actually $65 (as mentioned above), and I’m paying $45 after the $20 power bundle discount.

Since I’m getting solar installed, I initially thought I’d end up paying $85 once I lost the power bundle discount after switching providers, as 2degrees doesn’t support solar. I mistakenly added $20 to the $65 base in my head.

I’ve decided to stay with 2degrees for broadband — the $5 difference just isn’t worth changing to a reseller.

Simply offer no contract terms and no beginning and ending fees so they are an option for anyone who needs say a four month service over summer for a holiday house.
