"More than 2000 Mangawhai residents are without fibre after a high load brought down a cable this morning."

I'm wondering what this actually means?

Did something too high take out an overhead cable, or did the fibre cable somehow collapse under the weight of the internet???

Maybe that's what happens when you wire fibre optic cable into a transformer? 🤣

It certainly sounds like an over-height vehicle has taken out some important cables!

Everyone knows you need CAT6 for the internet, they obviously used CAT5.

CAT6 cable is a lot tougher than CAT5, for sure.  Wrap it in duct tape for extra strength and they'll be replacing the truck instead of replacing the cable!

(If insufficient strength is achieved, apply more duct tape.)

10Base5 (thick ethernet) for the win.

Yes, there are a couple of downsides, but it's nearly a centimetre in diameter. Much strongerer!

😜

Stronger yes, safer... Maybe....

If you trip over a catX cable you'll potentially break the tine on the plastic socket connecting the cable  to your device,

If you walk through a thicknet coble, the twist-on Steel BNC connectors are likely to drag your entire workstation off the desk ....

The transport company didnt send someone to do some reconnaissance, as they are required to do, and survey the planned route for impact to utilities before they got permission from the roading authority.

So when they went ahead and transported their high load, they hit the fiber cable up on the poles as it crossed the road and broke the cable.

They should have seen there was a line crossing the road that the high load would touch, and contact the pole owner to get them to temporarily lift the cable.
