Can anyone please share your knowledge on Line-Of-Sight (LOS) broadband available in Waitakere area of Auckland?
I tried the 4g/5g broadband for home and had to return it as it just wasn't cutting it.
Thank you.

@ModelCitizen Waitakere area of Auckland is huge can you narrow it down more?
Any reason why you have not looked into StarLink? That is LOS if you look up in the Sky

I was told that Starlink has lag as my kids play competitive gaming but may have to settle for that if all else fails. We have a good view of the bulk of west/central Auckland as are on an elevated hill.

@ModelCitizen every single type of internet connection has some lag. I know people that game on StarLink
Sounds like you need to ask the kids to move to a fibre area
xpd:
The lag on Starlink isn't bad actually depending on the game you play.
Main thing I noticed with a friend who has Starlink and games, is an occasional freeze (packet drop) as it switches trains....
Thanks for reply.
I talked to Spark and our area is not provisioned for fiber for the foreseeable future. The copper lines (adsl/vdsl) have all packed up as they are ancient and they expressly stated that they will not be repairing copper any longer. Maybe we should get the kids to trial starlink elsewhere before committing. I only have basic understanding of such things. Cheers
I think Starlink hardware is free currently.

What street/road are you on (house number not required but just to get a general idea)? Must be some sort of wireless solution available.

Wairere Road in Waitakere thanks.
Have searched on net but only the 4g/5g variety pops up. Years ago we lived in the wopwops of Tauranga and we had a line of sight service to a terrestrial tower many kms away and it worked a treat even in the wildest of weather. Perhaps that type of service is a thing of the past?

Potentially StrataNet may be able to assist, depending on your location.
Thanks, will email them.🙏

Looking at the Broadband Map, most of that road can get wireless service, either through StrataNet (as per saf's comment above) or Farmside might be an option 🙂

Can confirm. I am a network admin at a local competitor to starlink.
We have had customers sign up for our service and multiple mentions that each time the starlink terminal would change satellite they would experience a short drop in service. There are a few popular online shoot-em games that will ban you if you dont have a stable connection because when you quit early or drop out momentarily you are ruining the game for other players who you have randomly been matched with to play against.
So to encourage players to stay and complete the game or sort out bad wifi / connections they ban bad players who leave in the middle of games. This is so only good players that can stay in the game remain on the platform for the enjoyment of all players.
This was surprising news to me as I am not a gamer, but it totally makes sense.

Feel free to DM me your location, I'm up Wairere.
We have a local wisp around here. they dont have coverage maps but know almost all their towers fairly well.
fairly solid speeds as it's all micropops due to the land and local politics around towers :)
I have sent you James's details.

Was that with a reception aerial or was the modem standalone?
