Thinking of moving from 2degrees 1000/500 currently paying $100 (with $10 mobile discount to Contact Energy 500/100 for $65 (with $25 discount for power monthly).

2 person household, just use the internet for gaming, Youtube and browsing, mainly looking to save money without too much service degradation, is this an ok move or is Contact Energy broadband yucky?

@lNomNoml Why don't you just move from 2degrees 1000/500 to 500/100 $79? Having 1000/500 sounds way over kill for your house hold / usage

3 person house hold here and moved from 1000/500 to 500/100 and noticed zero difference so moved to 100/20 and have zero issues

So many house holds on 1000/500 throwing $$ away per month as they think they need it and really they don't

Mostly because I can't stand slow downloads especially with updating or installing games but I have grown to want to save now, didn't look at lowering my plan because Contact is still cheaper for the same speed at  $65, but I will enquire with 2degrees if I can change to it without having to sign up for another contract, I had previously emailed them asking for this and they said they would at $80 for the 500/100, it's just about saving the money if the service and connection quality will be the same or close to 2degrees.

Yeah i agree it may not be quite as cheap but I feel you're better to stay with a broadband provider than move to a or provider that tacks on broadband as an extra service.

Here is my Quic referral https://account.quic.nz/refer/39513 if you are keen to change ISP and to get free setup (save $29). I will get a $50 credit if you use this.  Thank you very much if you use my link but I'm sure there are quite a few others who could share the same on here, no hard feelings if you use a different link.

If your internet gaming mainly use low data, for example: arcade style, Angry Birds etc, then 100/20 is more than enough. Sky Broadband offer $65 ($60 for 12 months contract). Similar price to One & 2Degrees

If you want 500/100 then the average is around $85.

It's games like Arc Raiders and Sons of the Forest so 500/100 would be the lowest I would go especially if the SO is watching youtube. :D

@lNomNoml clearly you were not a kid of the late 1990's if you think 500/100 is going to give you slow downloads

I'm on 500/100 and it goes just fine for 4 people in my house with quite a few devices on the go at once (yes, including streaming).

Also I'm not sure what level of customer service you would get with Contact.

No issues here on 500/100 with Quic.
6 people use the internet with 2 teenage kids that game a lot and they haven’t noticed any difference after the drop from 900/400.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Wow 2degrees support are frustrating to deal with, constantly being transferred to someone new and having to explain myself, and their support aren't even in NZ and are hard to understand, might just move to contact from the frustrating customer service for lack thereof.

@lNomNoml How could this be a difficult request what are you asking for? Select broadband support and ID and then request to move to the 500/100 plan

Are you complicating it in anyway asking odd questions? Just a feeling I am getting if they are passing you around

Are you the actual account holder?

They say I need to sign up for a new 12 month contract but I have already been with them over a year and were offered the plan without having to sign up again via email.

@lNomNoml Escalate to a manager! to change plan you do not need a new contract term!

You could agree to a 12 month term for a cheaper monthly rate I suspect but if not then demand to speak to a manager
