Saturday, 4 June 2026, Kai Tahi, 20 Parumoana Street, Porirua.

Did you know there's a broadband plan in New Zealand designed specifically for families doing it tough - with unlimited fibre internet for just $28 a month?

It's called Local Linkup, and we're coming to Porirua to chat with anyone who wants to know more. No hard sell, no pressure - just a relaxed drop-in where you can ask questions, find out if you're eligible, and get connected on the day if it suits you.

Pop in anytime between 11am and 4pm - stay for five minutes or an hour, whatever works for you. There'll be free kai and drinks, a friendly face to talk to, and a straightforward sign-up process if you decide it's right for you.

You might be eligible if you hold a community services card, are receiving a benefit, and in either social housing or have a child attending a low-decile school.

What you get with Local Linkup:

⭐ Unlimited UFB fibre at 100 Mbps - no data caps
⭐ Free modem (with full settings access and parental controls)
⭐ Just $28/month - that's it
⭐ NZ-based customer service with real humans

Not sure if you qualify? Come along anyway and we'll figure it out together. Bring a neighbour, a friend, or anyone in your community who could use a hand getting connected.

I don’t get the reasoning for this part of the criteria.

*Have an installed Chorus ONT which has been inactive for over 3 months, if you have lived at the property for over 3 months.

So to be eligible the ONT has to have been inactive while you were living there. My young struggling tenant with a kid would qualify if not for that. He was on HFC but I just installed fibre in the flat. It would mean he would have to use some other means of internet for three months to qualify. I don’t get it.

I think this is something to discuss there. If the ONT is not even three months old and unused, surely that would count?

As I saw mentioned somewhere else, things are flexible. Talk to them.
