So i just got ADSL2+ in christchurch but, with xnet during peak times i download at 300-400KBPS yet at about 3am last night i was downloading at pretty much exactly 1mBps

for that reason + more i'm considering changing from xnet, which brings up the following questions.

1. Will changing isp improve my speed?
my router connects at 17000kbps, with xnet considering during peak times i download at about 1/4 of this, will finding the right isp improve my speed during peak (and off peak) times?

2. If isp does have a big impact on speed, which would be the fastest at a decent price?
i'm pretty bad at choosing isp's as i don't really know much about it.
but have been looking at orcon, snap and xtra.

3. Is there another isp that provides a decent cap for a good price?
with xnet i currently get 40gb @ ~70 a month, and i like their reigeme for managing usage.
i have been looking around at plans with around the same GB, so for xtra, i'd get the pro plan, and perhaps the 25gb or 50gb data upgrade for orcon.

4. What other benefits can you get from these isp's?
unlimited upload, interleaving off (do xtra/telecom allow that?), etc.

tldr; need a good, fast new isp.

Thank you all so much in advance.

In my experience the only ISP's that do not have peak time bandwidth problems are Telecom, Maxnet, Snap and Telstra.

They are all more expensive than the cheaper ISP's (Xnet, Slingshot and Orcon etc) and generally offer less flexible plans in terms of data block size and they don't offer free off peak.

This is my opinion of Xnet and Slingshot
