As per the title we are looking at going naked dsl with 2talks 2000 minute $35 business plan. I have trixbox set up and can easily migrate to 2talk but the decision comes down to the ISP

Price wise they are slightly different but who has the best customer service plus speeds etc? Xnet is unfortunately not an option. We moved from them because of the slow speeds. I would also like to know (if anyone knows) who out of the two (or any other naked provider) has the best international routes as almost all of our traffic is international except for trademe and geekzone of course!

It is also important to note that we have not been connected to a cabinet yet but could happen in the near future. I understand orcon has problems with this.

Thanks for you help,
Chris

Are you in an Orcon+ (LLU) area or not? (Check their site)

If you are, and you get one of their unbundled connections (any of their plans with a "+" on the end of it) then yes, after cabinetisation you may have a degradation of performance.

If you aren't in an Orcon+ area then the cabinetisation will only affect you in a positive way as you will be using a Telecom wholesaled service so you will get ADSL2+ from the cabinet.

yeah I am in an Orcon + network so the question is do I go with them and have all the hassles or just go with Snap who resell telecom wholesale...

Cabinetisation doesn't automatically mean ULL circuits will be worse - in some instances they are worse, in some they're better.

Just set up a Naked DSL connection with Snap in Christchurch, and their customer service was top-notch. I say that with some authority, as I gave it a thorough workout.

Telecom managed to make a royal balls-up of things (which I understand is par the course), and make the following successive claims about my non-functioning DSL connection:

1) They connected my existing line at 08:00hrs on Monday. It should be working.
2) They connected my existing line at 15:00hrs the previous Friday. It should be working.
3) That my house had never had a telephone line, ever, and I would have to pay $150 for a new connection.
4) That my house is definitely connected, but that I'm clearly incompetent and have probably plugged a toaster into the phone socket. They'll come and fix my stupidity and charge me $220.
5) (following the visit of the Telecom engineer and my eventual connection) That there was a fault in the Telecom wiring box on the main road, and they've fixed it. Zero charge.

Snap handled a lot of the Telecom stupidity for me, and were great about calling me back (as I had nothing but a PAYG mobile), and I consistently talked to one Helpdesk Analyst and her Technical Manager (they escalated, not me) throughout. They weren't patronising, and recognised that I had some technical knowledge and therefore could cope with a little more detail.

We were with Snap at the previous house (using the landlady's account), and I can't recall a single service outage. We hit our limit there fairly frequently (it was only 1Gb on that cheapo package), but adding extra data was easy through their web interface and pretty much instant. That said, they don't have the uncapped 1AM-7AM period that I think Orcon have, which would be handy.

Can't go wrong with Orcon's zero term contract and homehub
