Over the last two years I have lived in small hostel style accommodation with out access to DSL or cable and as a heavy internet user Woosh seemed to be the best value option. I knew, from previous experience a few years ago that the Woosh network was far from delightful but I was prepared to, basically suffer. I think WiMAX is my little glimmer of hope that this company will get it stuff together and move to a technology that will offer genuine mobility/portability and speeds that are comparable to other wireless technologies (HSPA/+ etc) but I'm extremely interested if and when this technology will be implemented. Woosh Wireless is a company that consistently keeps its cards close to its vest, yes improvements have been made like a company profile made on this forum but they haven’t made any significant effort to talk about the supposed impending WiMAX network (maybe due to no questions being asked). What I would like to know is if; Woosh is on schedule for its late 2009 launch and if any dates have been set? Is anyone even testing yet? Can I help? I want WiMax real bad, yeah.

Thanks for the interest in our WiMAX plans.

As you will be aware there has been a lot of talk about WiMAX from Woosh and many other people in New Zealand and overseas over the last few years. The good news is that the technology has continued to evolve and mature in that time and is now performing well in more than 100 commercial deployments around the world (see Clearwire in the states and YOTA in Russia for example). We have spent time with a number of vendors and overseas operators reviewing equipments and networks and can confirm the technology definitely delivers on the promises made (I recently saw a real world network streaming full HD TV to a 42? Plasma whilst simultaneously holding a voice call to my cell phone over a WiMAX connection with the same spectrum allocation as we have).

Woosh is committed to deploying WiMAX equipment in our 2.3MHz spectrum as soon as possible. The reality of the international finance markets, however, makes confirming the timing of these deployments difficult. In the past we have tended to go out too early with ambitious plans and raised expectations that we have sometimes been unable to meet. As such we are now playing our cards pretty close and will not be doing too much more talking about WiMAX until we are ready to turn on some networks. We know this will be frustrating for those potential customers who are eagerly anticipating the introduction of WiMAX but rest assured we are committed to the technology and working hard to deliver!

Users of this forum will be among the first to hear the good news when we are ready to roll out WiMAX and no doubt will be some of the first to help us test our network when we deploy.

What a great reply.

Thanks for the info and being upfront about the current situation and prior issues with your network.

It would be great to see another player in the market with decent speeds, especially for those of us that are not going to benefit from the fibre roll out or telecom's roadside cabinets.

If you can achieve decent speeds and reliability I would be a starter for sure.
