Just wanting to know if i get a dedicated circuit and SLA from my provider will that give me full line speed 24 7 with no peak times and on international speeds? and what sort of dollars am i looking at to do so

How much are you prepared to pay, per month? Roughly? $0 - $10 - $100 - $1,000 - $10,000 - $100,000?

YES thats what im asking, my line rate is 17mbs as im 1km from the exchange, but thats only attainable for here and sydney servers, else where i be lucky to get anything over 5mbs anytime and at the moment i pay 180 dollars a month for my 100gb plan.

so not too sure how much more i have to pay for a dedicated circuit and SLA maybe i have to ask my provider?

Ah, in that case I believe that your problem is latency, not bandwidth.

I'm guessing that you are running Windows (but not Vista or Win/7) rather than Mac OS X, xBSD or Linux. In which case, you need to fix the RWIN setting. See http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

Until you do that, no increase in bandwidth will do you any good whatsoever.

If you are running XP, the registry setting you need to edit is:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters]
"GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize"=dword:00039fbc

Unfortunately that is not ever going to happen over DSL as Telecom does not provide such an SLA to ISPs. When it comes to bandwidth there is contended bandwidth and then there is dedicated bandwidth, if you wanted 17mbps of dedicated bandwidth its going to cost you several thousand a month, and a few thousand more again for the international bandwidth component.

Your best bet is to go with a decent ISP which is known for good international speeds.

If you want an SLA then you will need to get off DSL - depending on where you live you will determine what is available. All at hugely more expensive prices but you are now entering a market where there is low demand and little competition. Best thing to get is a dedicated link into either Auckland or Wellington's peering exchanges. If you are in Palmerston North talk to Inspire Net. In Wellington try CityLink.
Being based in Wanganui we have a fibre link via TCL direct to Auckland. It currently runs at 5mb/s u/d - we pay $3500 per month for unlimited international data. Our link can run at up to 1Gbps but I do not know what that would cost.

Hi Thanks for the info yes im on windows xp but i couldnt find that registry in my computer? should i have it or not? im not sure.
I dont think it is latency as i always geta good ping to los angeles of around 144ms but its just the download speed that changes
one month i be getting 10-12mbs download easy to los angeles on the off peak then next month be 1-3mbs
It must just be my provider and there international bandwitdh allowances.

but i did do the tweak test from that link on dsl reports and it came back as good results :)

I guess a dedicated circuit and SLA is out of my dollars and league and yes i am in auckland,
I guess we just have to live with it untill vdsl comes available.

Yes, that should be fine. Variability in download speed must therefor be due to something else.
