Hey,

I'm currently with TelstraClear here in Auckland for my fixed home line and PDQ broadband.

I currently pay $54.61 for the fixed line, and around $48 for 10GB per month on a PDQ plan.

The thing is that I hardly ever use my fixed line, so that is $55 going down the drain each month. What I'd like to be able to do is have broadband only without the fixed line, but I do not believe that TelstraClear currently offer this.

Can anyone recommend any good alternatives for me? My requirements are:

1. Must be ADSL at comparible speeds to what PDQ currently offers me
2. I need at least 10GB per month with the option of purchasing additional data at a reasonable cost
3. I'd like to keep my monthly cost of this service at around the same level as PDQ currently costs me

I'd also like to keep my paradise.net email address but realise that this won't be possible if I move to another ISP.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I say Maxnet would probably be your best bet.

They offer Naked DSL with 10GB for $75, and in terms of reliability and speed, they're as close as you'd get to TelstraClear's PDQ. Don't think any other Naked DSL ISPs out there are worthwhile.

Will the likes of TelstraClear, Telecom etc ever just offer naked DSL?

Slingshot and I think Orcon also do NakeDSL. I read that Slingshot will be upgrading their nakedsl plans in a couple of months. Slingshots current nakedsl has 50GB data blocks for $40

Orcon don't do naked DSL (to everyone not on their equipment, at least)

Slingshot don't offer anywhere near the consistent service that Telstra do (other than far better aussie routing)

Snap offers naked DSL 10GB for $69.00 or 20GB for $89.00

Common sense is not as common as you think.

That is rubbish, I have some friends who use the NDSL service from Slingshot and say they get better speeds than when they had FS/FS from Slingshot.

I use snap and are very happy with them. They are an ISP you can touch. I would migrate you email address to gmail as well, gmail has great on-line services.

You could also use skype in for home phone but remember, you do not have 111 access and will not be suitable if you have a monitored alarm. I have people using this with a local number and find it great. They use a windows mobile 6 device via WiFi so at office and home can get these calls on mobile.
