Hi all,

Im having some problems with speed here i have always been able to get pretty much maximum speeds for ADSL1 but lately my upload always maxes out at .25 when i used to get a lot more, This is what made me see if ADSL2+ would work,

My exchange has been upgraded to 2+ but they dont seem to think there is a cabinet in my area or what speeds i would be able to get.

Im on XNET Naked DSL i have rewired the whole house and the wire that comes from the roadside goes straight to my modem, the rest of the jacks in the house have been hooked up from the VOIP box so there shouldnt be a problem there.

Here is the specs from in my modem which is a Linksys AM300 Those sync speeds are the same as what i get in ADSL1 mode.

DSL Status:
UP

DSL Modulation Mode:
G.992.5 (ADSL2+)

DSL Path Mode:
INTERLEAVED

Downstream Rate:
7616 Kbps

Upstream Rate:
896 Kbps

Downstream Margin:
14 db

Upstream Margin:
15 db

Downstream Line Attenuation:
6

Upstream Line Attenuation:
3

Downstream Transmit Power:
11

Upstream Transmit Power:
11

LOS Errors:
0

Im pretty sure that there is a cabinet about 400mtrs away itsays NU B on it but the Telecom wholesale site doesnt seem to know anything about it, I do remember seeing Telecom / Courus vans there in the past so not sure what is up with that.

Basically i want to know am i able to get any ADSL2+ speeds being that Telecom doesnt seem to think that cabinet exisits.

From computerworld "However, some posters in Vodafone?s customer forum report that switching to a Telecom-supplied Thomson DSL modem restores connection speeds to ADSL2+ rates."

Hi, I would strongly recommend you try a differnt modem, preferably a Broadcom based one like the thompsons, the simple DSE XH9949 is only $69 and if it does not help DSE will take it back no questions asked, just keep all the packaging so it can be easily reshelved.

The DS rate you have of 7616 is exactly what several brands of modems based on the lattest TI hardware (which I am sure the Linksys is) seem to jam on. From my understanding there seems to be some compatibility between the Telecom ISAMs port settings and certain modem chipsets that causes this.

Cheers
Cyril

100% try a new modem as Cyril suggested.

I'm currently on similar sync speeds on my old Netgear(only till Friday when my phone gets put back on from VoiP) and I"ve got a new Asus Wifi router ready to go in, when i tested it, 15000kbps sync speed, just couldn't get the PAP2T working with it :( So I'm moving back to fixed line.

Is the firmware up to date?

Linksys AM300 does use a TI chipset. Cyrill7s advice is good can't go wrong with a cheap broadcom.

Allright think we have found the problem,

Borrowed a DSE XH9949 from a mate and checked it out.

It cant run in ADSL2+ mode like the Linksys does.

Pretty sure ADSL2+ isn't enabled in my cabinet, Telecom or Chorus has no info on my cabinet anywhere all it says is ADSL2+ is enabled on the exchange, and with the good line speed numbers im getting i assumed it would work but aparently not.

Im about 400Mtrs from this, now to ask some questions about when this is going to get upgraded

Ahhh, just clicked on something, exactly which naked plan are you on, as all but the Fusion plan is limited to ADSL1.

Xnet can see im on a cabinet in the area but cant find any info on when it would be upgraded, Telecom must have made a mistake and left it out,

They have pretty much said there's no chance it won't be upgraded being that its already there and seem to think that will happen around Jan - Apr next year when some other cabinets in my are are due to be upgraded.
