Hi there fellow GZers

Moving from Chch to Paraparaumu Beach soon and despite TCL's coverage map showing that their cable service covers Paraparaumu Beach, I was told today that it does not and I will have to get ADSL which is onsold from Telecom.  I know their map says that it is indicative only and I should check with them for specific addresses but this is ridiculous - their map covers the whole of Paraparaumu Beach!

I really don't want to go back to Telecom either through TCL or with them direct as I really have had crap service from them in the past and don't want to return.

Anyway, was (as is sometimes the case) this person at TCL full of it or are they correct do you think?  Address is Martin Road Para Beach, so if there are any GZers in the area it would be great to hear from you.  I am addicted to cable and don't want to go baaaaaaaaaaaaaacccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk........ LOL

Cheers

EXCELLENT and thanks very much!

Will get onto them again tomorrow and see what happened - I got rung up by one of their sales team on another matter and asked how my relocation was going, woman said no record of it (they were supposed to be checking if they had already cabled the house) so will follow up tomorrow.  I thought it was weird!

As Wyvern has said Telstras HFC cable is throughout the kapiti coast, Kapiti was the birth place of the Saturn cable system that Telstra now owns.

That said I have been involved with a number of both new builds and older homes wanting to be moved to TCL HFC and have not been able to. Essentially Telstra historically have done some pretty shoddy work of overhead cabling throughout the Kapait/Wellington area so now the authorities give them no slack if they want to run new drops, so if the poles are not in place or it has to cross a road its quite possible that you may wait an age or it not even ever happen.

Not wanting to say you cannot get it where you want it, just dont be surprised if the neighbours have it but you cannot, this happens a lot.

Edit, just to say Martin Rd is all cabled so you should have no issue, I pass there most days, PM me an address and I can do a visual as to if its currently cabled or not.

Thanks for all your help guys, TCL is sending someone out but confirmed that it should be available, though they also confirmed your point Cyril that even if the top flat (which I am not renting) has it, it doesnt mean that I can get it in the bottom flat (which I am renting). Cripes, sounds a bit mickey mouse but there you go.

Hi, Can confirm that this property is/was connected to TCL's HFC network, there is a TCL demarc on the right side of the building with an underground leadin to overhead network. It seems that both the HFC cable and phone pair are connected to both the line tap and multipair, so probably currently in service.

Thanks very much Cyril, most appreciated - be interested to hear what TCL come up with, given the 'interesting' responses I have had to date...  the words "boozeup:, "brewery" and "couldnt organise" come to mind :)
