Have a look at www.telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps and plug in your address, should show you the location of the exchange and any cabinets in your area.

It's in Henderson, but there should be a cabinet a bit closer.

thanks for the info. my bb connecition becomes extremely unstable(about 200 dropouts per day) after telecom started installing cabinets in forrest hill. where i live is not cabinetized. only 1.4km from the exchange. i heared only people living in a cabinetized area might get unstable internet. btw, im with orcon. i called orcon, and they basically turned on the interleaving on my profile and now i m getting about 20-30 dropouts per day. also a significant sync speed drop from 16Mb/s to 8Mb/s. now im thinking about switching to telecom. am i going to get a fast and stable internet with telecom??thanks

Are you on Orcon+?

Actually, don't know what difference that would make if your area is not cabnetised but at least you'll be using different equipment, so the results could vary. It could be a coincidence and you have some issue with your wiring?

my adsl connection is actually isolated, im using orconhomehub as a pabx so only the orconhomehub is physically connecting to the telephone socket. ive been with orcon for 3 years and am use to get 16-18Mb/s and only a couple of dropouts per week. This is all happening after jan this year cabinets are introduced in my area even im not in one of them. orcon seems changed my profile with a lower sync speed to keep my connection stable.

Can you confirm or double check exactly what is says on http://www.telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps for your address?

Specifically in the right hand side does it say "This address is near an exchange.." or "This address is scheduled to be connected to a roadside cabinet" etc?

it says "This address is near an exchange which has already been upgraded with faster broadband equipment (ADSL2+ technology)."

If you've ruled out the problem being at your end (router, internal phone wiring etc) then you're probably at a stage where Orcon need to book a technician to check your physical connection to the exchange.

iloveadeal, Get Orcon to get a line check done, as you shouldn't experience any line degregation due to cabinets being installed.

Your line isn't near any cabinets and the more people who get cabinets installed should result in less cross talk on your line.

Let me know if you have any issues.
